I ordered this board along with a new AMD FX 4100 4-Core Processor, 3.6 4 Socket AM3 - FD4100WMGUSBX. I was a little worried that it might come with an older version of the BIOS that wouldn't support the new AM3+ processors. When I got it, the case had a sticker stating that the it had the AM3+ enabled BIOS already. Also Amazon shipped the Rev 1.1 board not the 1.0 revision.
A few things note, the Windows 7 did not have drivers for the LAN, so you'll need to install them from the CD before you can get on the internet. Also in order to get higher than 1333 for the memory, you'll have to mess with the BIOS settings.
Overall, I am very pleased with this board. For all the features you get, it's well worth the price and you'll be set for a while with the latest technology.
The board has a ton of great features, but be aware, due to VRM overheating, a non-overclocked FX8350 WILL be throttled to about 3.4ghz when stressed to full load (it'll switch between that and full speed rapidly to try and keep VRM temps normal). Due to this, I cannot recommend this board if you plan on overclocking or have an FX8350. I really wish I had learned of this earlier as I'd return this board. As it stands, I can't afford to replace it, so I'm stuck with it. Gigabyte is aware of this issue, but states it plans to do nothing, as it "only happens when overclocking". This is completely false, as myself and many others have VRM throttling without any overclock. This problem occurs in ALL 990FXA and 990XA Gigabyte boards.
Edit: For those wondering, Amazon will send you Rev.3 of this board, which does NOT have the ability to turn off APM (which would prevent the VRM throttling).
Pros: I've been using this board for a month now and decided on Gigabyte due to the quality of my last board (P45-UD3R). Apart from going back to AMD (started getting into PCs back in the Athlon64 days, so I decided to gamble on AMD once again) the BIOS still seems very much familiar. Gigabyte still uses their old trusty BIOS (no UEFI yet) with plenty of options to tweak RAM, CPU, etc. The features on this board are hard to pass up for the price with USB 3.0, SATA III, two full x16 lane SLI/Crossfire support and support for the upcoming bulldozer CPUs as well as any AM3 CPU. The color scheme is dead sexy and a complete 180 degree turn from previous Gigabyte boards. I had flashed the BIOS to F3g(at the time I got this) before doing anything else and had absolutely no issues upon boot up. Windows 7 practically took care of the entire setup for me and the only drivers I actually went hunting for were the south-bridge drivers from AMDs site and the latest Etron drivers off Gigabyte's site. I would personally suggest sticking with msahci drivers for SSDs and TRIM support. Everything seems to work well with GSkill sniper 1866 memory (running @ 1333 for now), Crucial 64gb M4 SSD (average 510 Mb/s read 106 Mb/s write with 0009 firmware) and a fill-in Phenom II x3 720 BE (can't unlock or overclock past 3.4Ghz for anything unfortunately) until Bulldozer hits.
"Cons": Now I did do my homework before going in to this, but a word of caution to potential buyers: this board (or mine at least) bumps whatever CPU voltage you set in BIOS up by .02V when the CPU is in idle and then at CPU load the voltage goes back down to your BIOS setting with occasional spikes that drop another .02V. This is with using the latest CPU-Z and HWMonitor and the F4 BIOS.Read more ›
The mobo itself is quite good looking and performs very very well and there's nothing bad I can say about the performance of it.
My only thoughts are the color scheme (altho it looks really cool) for people who are quite new on building their own rigs would have problem identifying which slot is which, i.e. ram slots isnt color coded so those newer people would have to spend some time to identfy which DDR3-slot 1 or 2 is. they coulda made those slots gray/black alternating just to make it easier to identify. and the SATA cable slots is facing towards the right side, if it was facing to you it would be easier to mount the calbes, specially if people that would be using this got tight case space, they'd have to spend time and some flexing of the fingers to get the SATA cables in to the sockets xD
but overall performance wise its perfect for the money, cheapest AM3+ mobo that is capable of dual x16 crossfire set up (thats why I bought this xD) on the market. and a lot of great features like Dual bios (just in case you mess up flashing bios, as the manual suggest, if you don't get any problems w/ its stock bios, dont play with it! lol) and the Dolby Digital feature is amazing as well, pretty darn good.
I bought this for dual x16 set-up and in anticipation of the "Bulldozer" CPU's so currently my temporary setup is
Mobo - Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 (Of course =P) CPU - AMD PhenomII 925 2.8Ghz (OC'd to 3.4, could go 3.6 and still be stable but kept it to 3.4 just to be safe. using this temporarily until bulldozers comes out) GPU - Sapphire Flex HD6870 x2 (Crossfire) PSU - Corsair TX950 (950watts) RAM - Corsair Vengance 8GB (2 x 4GB) CPU heatsink/fan - Hyper 212 (temporarily using this until new CPU's comes out then I will switch to water cooling) Case - NZXT Lexa S mid-tower Case case fans - 6 (2 intake/2exhaust/2custom fan inside for improving air flow)
