Ultra Durable 3
B0055QYKRI_amazon_UD3.jpg

GIGABYTE Ultra Durable 3 design, featuring 2 ounces of copper for both the Power and Ground layers which dramatically lowers system temperature by delivering a more efficient spreading of heat from critical areas of the motherboard such as the CPU power zone throughout the entire PCB. GIGABYTE's Ultra Durable 3 also lowers the PCB impedance by 50%, which helps to reduce electrical waste and further lowers component temperatures. A 2oz Copper layer design also provides improved signal quality and lower EMI (Electromagnetic Interference), providing better system stability and allowing for greater margins for overclocking

DualBIOSTM 3TB+ HDD Support (Hybrid EFI Technology)

I had a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 revision 1.1, but needed more Hard drive access ports. So I purchased this Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD7 revision 1.1 motherboard which has all the connectors the old motherboard had plus 2 more on board SATA III connectors. I Downloaded the updated F11a Beta BIOS from Gigabytes website and flashed the BIOS with the @BIOS GUI Windows Utility. Ports 0-5 are connected to the South Bridge AMD SB950 Chip and the other port 5-6 are connected to an additional Marvell 88SE9172 Chip. The Same Marvel 88SE9172 Chip used for the two eSATA 6 GB/s ports on the back panel connector area. This motherboard works with 32 GB DDR3 1600 MHz memory. If you use 8GB DDR3 SDRAM modules there is an AMD Limitation on 1866 MHz DDR3 memory that limits the 1866 speed to only 2 sticks (16 GB) of memory. The motherboard has an onboard Display for POST errors and a Power on/off push-button, a Reset push-button, and a Clear CMOS Push-button with a clear plastic safety cap. There is better cooling of the North Bridge and South Bridge Chips due to an interconnected Heat Pipe connecting both Chips to the Main Heat Sink. Fan Connectors are ample and have sensors that can be enabled in CMOS Setup. The AMI BIOS is easy to navigate and manual set up is possible when setting up Memory XMP Settings manually. All in All a very good Board that runs "Cool and Quiet" or Performs Loud with Cooling Fans yet Cooler with Liquid Cooling Solutions such as the Cooler Master CWC-H100 Dual Radiator CPU Cooling System.

This motherboard is all right, I suppose. I've had some problems starting out with the initial assembly, and I am still dealing with a problem, and have gotten no reply from Gigabyte so far.

The internal sound system has a built-in problem. Not enough separation between the sound section and the rest of the computer, so you hear little pops and other noises that are a function of mouse clicks, programs doing something, etc. This was a problem back in the original days of integrated sound boards--10 year or more ago. I'd think that by now that Gigabyte would have been able to design a motherboard that could keep the weird noises out of the sound section.

Nowhere in any of the documentation does it tell you which heat sensor is looking at what. I'm not, and have no intention of, overclocking anything, however, I am doing 3D renders that are very CPU intensive, and I'd love to know which heat sensor is spiking occasionally, but I can't find that information anywhere.

Finally, the documentation about the BIOS, I guess, is written for someone who has been keeping right up with all of the latest changes, and makes a lot of assumptions. I have been trying to figure out why the MOBO and Win7 can't find the 1TB internal drive.

In my initial problem, Gigabyte's tech support disappeared on December 20, and as near as I can tell, have shown up for one day--wherein they sent out a boilerplate reply that was worse than useless. I tend to get very, very upset with 'tech support' people whose first resort is to point fingers at everyone else, rather than making sure they don't own the problem. Second, it is unreasonable for them to expect that you have extra CPU chips, drives, etc. just laying around.

Installation process went smooth and no issues so far. However, it is worth noting that there is a power button on the mobo so be sure to turn it on after installation. I didn't realize it wasn't on when I first installed and thought I got a bad board, d'oh

Had to purchase an oversized case to accommodate the odd shape. Worked well for the better part of 2 years and had intermittent problems thereafter eventually giving up completely 1 month after the Warranty expired.
Will not buy another Gigabyte Motherboard; will go back to using ASUS.

I bought this for my gaming rig and it hasn't failed me I've got 32gb of ram a 3gb graphics card and an 8core processor running on this guy and it works great all the plugs work and it's sturdy. Seems to stay relatively cool too. Plus the buttons for overclocking will come in useful to any extreme computer enthusiasts.

I am not very good at making decisions on my electronic gear, but this decision was easy. this motherboard is fantastic in every way, and it was worth every penny. I will also reveal that I do not usually follow directions, so I'm pretty sure I must have shorted this thing out a few times while i was adjusting its position in my case, and even though most motherboards will blow their brains out around that time, this one worked fine. I'm sure I will have this for a very long time.

This board is about (1) one inch bigger than the standard boards on the market requiring a mid-tower case which will allow smooth and ideal cable placement. I use a 750 watt power supply and the board performs well.
Board is well made performs well. I doubt other boards out perform or run any better.
