3D Power: Voltage Control
Voltage parameters can be modified within 3D Power, including load line calibration the of CPU. By adjusting load line calibration, Vdrooping can be avoided, maintaining optimal voltages levels despite increasing current levels. OVP (over voltage protection) can also be adjusted to change default protection range of the CPU, memory controller, VTT and system memory.

3D Power: Phase Control
Users can calibrate OCP (Over Current Protection) for the CPU, integrated memory controller and system memory power levels. This allows the Phase control to deliver even more power to the system when needed.

3D Power: Frequency Control
GIGABYTE's digital PWM allows for adjustable frequency control via the International Rectifier (IR3567) PWM controller. 3D Power frequency control allows users to change the PWM controller frequency so that the CPU VRM can adjust power delivery speeds more quickly. Booted first time. Good documentation. Loaded with i7-3930K cpu, 32GB DDR3-1600MHz, SSD, & 2TBx2 in RAID0. Nice to have 6 SATA3 ports, and front & back 1394 & USB3.0. Using all 4 fan headers too. Easy to use and upgrade BIOS. Just using $10 gfx until PCIe3.0 cards arrive. Easy to install & attach everything!

This motherboard is a beast! So much RAM, PCIe x16x2 and x8, LGA 2011. My computer registers as a 7.7 on the windows Experience index. Graphics card (EVGA 560 Ti) is 7.8, RAM (16GB Corsair Vengeance) is 7.9, and the Processor is an i7 3820 which is the bottleneck at 7.7. I am not complaining about that though. It's wicked fast.

The only complaint I have is finding a cooler for it... With my extremely tall Corsair Vengeance RAM, I had to get Corsair's H80, and that still touches the RAM closest to the radiator..
Overall, I wish I had gotten the Corsair Vengeance LP RAM, but I'm happy as is.

Highly recommend.

I switched to Gigabyte motherboards about 2-3 years ago when (in my estimation), Intel seemed to be having a lot of issues with its motherboards. I have 2 EP45s and a P67 (all Gigabyte) that have been rock solid. I was a little nervous about the purchase as I, too had read the Newegg reviews. It seemed as though I would have to spend $400+ to get a solid X79 chipset. I crossed my fingers and got the Gigabyte X79 w/8 dimm slots ($269.99 + free ship + no tax). I also wanted a lot of onboard SATA ports as I was going to run a 4x500GB RAID 0 with a 2x60GB SSD RAID 0 for my OS. I will admit that I'm not crazy about the cheaper onboard Marvell chips, but all I use Marvell for are my dvd/bluray drives. So far, the board has been rock solid with 64 GB DDR3-1600 G.SKILL and the Intel 3930K chip with an Intel water CPU cooling system. Its all in a HAF932 case with a fan pretty much in any place that has the mounting holes. I put my 4 WD drives in a Cooler Master 4-in-3 and my 2 Intel 520 SSD in the drive bays. All of the disks share 2 cooling fans (1 in the case and 1 in the 4-in-3). I dedicate 48GB of my memory to VMWare because I usually run several VMs. So far, I haven't been able to really tax the system - it handles pretty much anything I throw at it. I develop software and work a lot from my home office, so I wanted a system that would last 4 or 5 years before it started getting bogged down. So far, so good - usually if the hardware lasts 6 months with no issues, it will then last for several more years. Gigabyte rocks! Also, I can get TRIM passed to my SSDs in RAID 0 now because Intel just started supporting it on series 7 chipsets.

been running this every day since purchased with a Intel Core i7 3820, 32 Gigs of Corsair 1600 MHZ, a SanDisk Extreme SSD 120 GB SATA, 1 TB WD Black hard drive, Corsair Hydro Series High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler H60, and 1 Panasonic bluray burner. all purchased here at Amazon. Running WIN 8.1 Pro 64 bit.
This board is a little tricky when installing the SSD and setting up the rest of your SATA drive hardware. So don't freak out if your Blu ray or DVD software doesn't recognize all of the burning features of your DVD-CD BLU-ray drives. It's not the motherboard, it's not the drive, it's not the software..... it's the GA-79's BIOS settings.
Just read up on the instructions for the BIOS settings and placement of the SATA cables and you'll be fine.

I've been building PCs for about 20+ years and from time to time we all encounter a dud product. This is one of those products. There are so many issues with this particular board that are negative (and I've been a Gigabyte motherboard fan for many years) that I won't even begin to list them, but the main problem is the BIOS - it's a disaster. It is enough to say that other folks ought to steer clear of this one. Best regards to everyone!
