This review is from: GIGABYTE TouchNote T1028X with 3G Module 10.1" Touch Screen WXGA TFT-LCD / N280 1.66Ghz / 1366x768 / Black LED / 1G SDRAM / 250 HDD / 6 Cell / New Version - Windows 7 Starter (Personal Computers)
I have had my netbook for a couple of weeks now, and it fits my needs perfectly. I use this netbook almost exclusively for ereading, but I wanted a product that was more than just an ereader. The swivel & touch screen on this netbook is why I wanted it, and I have not been disappointed. As other reviewers have stated, the battery pack that sticks out a little off of the back of the netbook serves very well as a handle, the swivel touch screen is great for playing games and I downloaded the nook for pc app and my entire barnes & noble library is available right there. I just turn the screen around and I can hold this netbook like it is a real book. The Windows 7 starter doesn't bother me; I really don't need the full version on this travel computer. Also, I haven't found the need to upgrade the ram yet from 1g to 2g, but I like the fact that it's an option if I decide later on that I want it.
I will say that the battery life isn't great, but I do always leave the wi-fi on, and that will eat up your battery very quickly. I can plan on a solid 3.5 to 4 hrs of battery life with the wi-fi on, and that is just fine for me. I'm sure that if the wi-fi is turned off, the battery life would be much longer. All in all, I'm quite happy with my purchase and I would definitely recommend this comp to anyone who wants a viable option to an ipad, an ereader or just a simple run of the mill netbook. This product costs a little more, but it is completely worth it.

I bought this Christmas 2009 for myself. I really like the size so much better than a laptop. I does everything just as well and is smaller, lighter, and the battery lasts a lot longer. The touch screen WAS awesome until I dropped it out of my 18 wheeler cab (in it's soft case) onto the asphalt when I was unloading my cab at the house for time off. The screen now has a dozen cracks and has rendered the touch screen useless BUT I can still use it as a regular screen thank goodness. The cracks aren't even that annoying except for the fact that I paid 3 times the price of a regular netbook to have the touch screen. I have really learned to like the left and right click buttons off to the side of the mouse. I usually use the double tap feature for left click on the pad and the button only if it is a technical click and hold/drag kinda thing with my right hand on the mouse and left hand on the button so this works perfectly for me. It really is pretty durable as it has fallen a few times to the floor of the truck. I was worried about the single hinge breaking, but it is durable. I really like the battery that sticks out the back. It makes a great handle to hold onto when in tablet mode especially. Battery life is great at over 5 hours even on bright screen setting. It has 3 USB ports. Plenty of options. Bluetooth. Card reader. Windows 7 starter is fine for my use. Bought an upgrade and never used it.
Complaints... The WiFi turns off every time you shut down and you have to turn it on after you boot every time. Very minor complaint. Wish I had an accidental plan D O H !!!!! |
