The remote did not work out of the box. After tinkering with it for about an hour, I took out a voltmeter to measure the battery voltage and noticed the battery was dead. So be prepared to spend an extra $5 at radio shack for the replacement. There are some complications with this, however. Taking the battery is not a small task on this remote. Although the remote looks identical on the outside to the other one I have, Genie has changed the battery type from the 9V A23 battery that is just like a small AAA battery to a circular 3V lithium battery. There are no instructions on how to change the battery, but it takes partial disassembly of the remote to remove the battery. Additionally, the instructions explaining the polarity of the battery are incorrect (reversed). After spending half my afternoon getting the battery issue resolved, the remote works fine, although it seems to have about a 1 second delay that my other remote does not have. This is minor, though. The two stars are for the remote being sent with a dead battery and for not providing appropriate instructions of removal and proper installation of a new one.

I was looking for a replacement for my Overhead Door brand opener, but couldn't see putting out $40. After reading other reviews, I learned that this model would work. Programming was quick and painless. Works perfectly. Some people complain about the short range. As long as it works by the time I get to my driveway, I'm happy - and it does. Very pleased with this product.

This remote was very easy to set up and a great price. I would highly recommend for someone who wants a simple 1 button garage door opener.

I've had a number of similar models over the years. This new model has a slightly better button feel and a slight delay between button press and activation. It seems to be more consistent in its activation (with the older models I sometimes had to press two or more times to activate). The delay is a small negative, but I've gotten used to it. The better button feel and more consistent operation makes this an improvement.

We have a two car garage with only one remote. Now we have two. Easy to program and the price was good. Just make sure it's compatible with your unit before purchasing.

Great product!!! I bought a foreclosure and needed remotes for the garage door opener. Works perfectly with my genie opener!!!

My father broke his remote and this was easy to get and use for him who is not good at programing or using anything electronic

The new 3 button version was sent to me as the old one button remote is discontinued. It works but stubborn as hell to accept the new code, keep trying and try all 3 buttons. works OK when finally programmed.

The product itself is fine, but I just wonder when you purchase something that cost 24 dollars and change and they send you a different item that is a substitute and it only cost 14 and some change why don't they send you a refund for the difference? I am not sure why this is legal. You should get what you originally ordered or an explanation of why they substituted and they should credit your method of payment for the difference in cost. I don't know how they can do that without adjusting the difference in cost. What is up with that?
