4.0 out of 5 stars NOT BATTERY OPERATED! Great Lights!
I ordered these lights for our faux ficus tree in the stairway platform. They look great and have cool functions. The only issue is that I ordered them for the "battery operated" feature, come to find that the item description was incorrect. They must be plugged in full time. I will be installing an outlet in that stairway in the future anyway.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dissappointed with description
After searching for "battery operated" lights for 2 mantles in my home, I ordered 2 sets of these lights. I was very disappointed when I opened them to find out that they were not battery operated at all, but required a outlet to work. I will be returning them today. Very misleading description.

4.0 out of 5 stars High quality plug-in LEDs with programmable flashing options., January 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The title on this item should be changed to show that these are high quality plug-in LEDs with programmable flashing options. Like other light strings made by GKI Bethlehem Lighting, these are high quality and should last for a number of years. The wires are thicker than many other light strings, with connections that seem sturdy. (I have been changing over from cheap no-name lights to this brand over several years and have been happy with their durability.)

These lights have an adapter that plugs into the wall, and a strange plug goes from the light string to the adapter. Pushing a button on the separate (in-line) controller box selects from a list of eight programmable flashing cycles. For example, you can make them all flash, or make all the blues flash together, separately from the yellows and reds and greens. You can make them flash in several different patterns. My daughter, who has spent more time programming these than I have, says that all of the settings include three speeds that vary but are not controllable. That is, the lights will blink slowly for a while, then at a medium rate, and then REALLY FAST before returning to the slow rate. While the slow lights are calm and relaxing, I find the fast lights jarring and frantic. Aren't there some people whose epileptic seizures can be triggered by rapidly flashing lights? (Or is that just an urban myth?) Anyway, I dislike this feature.

Close to the plug, there are many wires twined together into a thick cord, while the lights at the far end have just a pair of wires. I assume this is necessary for the programmed flashing. Still, near the cord, the thickness of the wire bundle makes it more prominent among the branches of the tree than I would like.

Overall, this set is less expensive than the other flashing LED sets I have found. But with the super-fast flashing cycle, I will not be getting more. I will get more of the GKI Bethlehem Lighting LED strings that do NOT flash instead. (My daughter will be disappointed.)

1.0 out of 5 stars False description., July 27, 2011

Falsely advertised as "battery operated" when in fact they require AC power and have no adapter for operating on battery power.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great lights...at a lower price., November 29, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I got two of these last year at the last minute when they were on sale. They are so much fun. They twinkle in several different modes, dim, run in a series, random, etc., and you can control the mode with a box with buttons. We have them permanently hung with a garland on a beam in our kitchen, and are great fun just to watch when we get bored with the dinner table conversation.

But alas, I can't afford more this year at this current price. I would have bought several for our Christmas tree.
