the PERFECT diet for this hectic age!,
By Claire "Claire" (UK / Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The GL Diet (Paperback)
Nigel Denby's GL Diet is brilliant. It's simple, easy to understand, warm and inclusive in tone, informative, easy to follow, and the perfect antidote to all the fads, crazy complicated counting, silly restrictive and just awful diets we've been fed for the last few years!
I travel a lot, entertain a lot and generally have a very busy life that does not leave room for a time consuming labour intensive eating regime. This is the one for me. It works, it's easy, and I spend less time thinking and worrying about food that I ever did before. And that's got to be a GOOD THING! My energy levels are up, I'm back in the gym (there seems to be more time in my life now!)and loving it, and my life is simply simpler. If you've been caught in a 'diet trap' (as the author calls it) then this is the diet for you. Best thing - noone's noticed anything other than delicious food on the table when I cook (simple, fast recipes included), and noone notices when I'm eating out that I'm 'dieting' and everyone notices how good I look and my energy levels. Thanks Nigel & Diet Freedom (really good website, answer all your questions fast - www.dietfreedom.co.uk), you've made a ex-frenzied fatty very happy, calm and lighter!

Forget Atkins and Southbeach, this is better,
By Al (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The GL Diet (Paperback)
As a man I normally find diet books boring and preachy but this is a refreshing change... And the authors have a sense of humour! 30 pounds down and 7 to go I can highly recommend it after yo-yoing up and down on the Atkins diet and feeling deprived and tired most of the time I can now eat plenty of fruit and even bread and still lose weight. My wife says I am a new man! It is the best diet book I have found in my long history of being overweight.

Throw away all your other diet books!,
By Christina (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The GL Diet (Paperback)
I first saw this book in the UK featured in The Times newspaper, it seems to be taking over from the Gi diet books.
It is much simpler than South Beach and other Gi diets and using the GL (glycemic load)is more accurate and means more food choices. I didn't lose any weight on South Beach but have lost 5 pounds in two weeks already and haven't felt hungry at all. Vert straightforward, no nonsense, non-techy easy read. Brilliant!

More than just another fad diet,
By Jeff (Panorama City, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The GL Diet (Paperback)
An English friend came to visit and bought the GL Diet book with her. After years of trying one diet after another it's made a real difference to me, I lost 26lbs and have more energy than ever and best of all I've been able to keep it going- I don't even feel like I'm on a diet- it just become a way of life. The Diet Freedom website is full of good tips and ideas and the authors always respond to your questions. It's like having your own personal support network on line!

Disappointing - at best,
By Janie E "Travelin Mom" (Atlanta, GA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The GL Diet (Paperback)
First, do not let the 1 star sway your thinking about a low GL, on the contrary. The 1 star is our opinion of the "book", not of the "diet".
As to the "book" - We just purchased the GL Diet book, and I have to tell you how incredibly disappointed we were We had done our research, been following a Low "GI" plan with good success, but found the GL to be a far better concept than simply a Low GI, so we were excited to purchase a book that would provide guidance as to HOW to follow a low GL lifestyle I wish that were the case, but in the entire book there is but a passing reference to "Load", that being a highlighted bullet box on page 12 about having a daily load of under 80 vs. over 100 THAT WAS IT! 223 pages and dozens of recipes and not one single mention of the "load" for any of the foods they suggested or the recipes they provided.....not one mention How does a person KNOW if they are under 80 or over 100? ...beats me! Sorry, but you'll have to go elsewhere to get information like that, because you sure won't find it in this book. Much of the book is admittedly helpful, in a general sense, but with no proof, no examples or reference tables to the GL of individual foods or recipes "disappointed" far more accurately describes our overall impression Basically we feel we paid for a few recipes, and learned absolutely -0- more about the GL in foods than we already knew.

Great Book!!,
By Jeanne Marie (Colorado) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The GL Diet (Paperback)
This is a wonderfully concise book with a lot of helpful information. It is also very humorous and down to earth. It does a great job at explaining what glycemic load is and how to apply eating this way to our everyday lives. I recommend this book to everyone, whether or not weight loss is the goal, especially with the way we eat in the US.

Ok, but not great,
By

A decent intro into the concept of Glycemic load, but most of the book is really recipes. The diet part could be summed up in one sentence. Eat low GI foods witha daily GL of less than 80.

GL Diet by Nigel Denby,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The GL Diet (Paperback)
I saw this book in England and I liked it because it had an alphabetical list of food items, with their corresponding GL values.
However, when my book arrived, it was different and did not have this list. I was very disappointed and do not understand. Had I known this, I would not have bought the book. |
