A nice set of plugs, easy to install. only 4 stars because the back part will not clamp onto 12ga wire! I wrapped a few layers of tape around that point and that worked fine.

I was looking for a good set of banana plugs at a reasonable price. I am a rank amateur, so my criteria were rather simple:
1) non-metalic casing (to reduce the risk of a short) 2) robust enough that they may be inserted/unplugged many times without damage 3) secure clamping of the cable (I used a rather unusual 14-gauge flat cable by Atlona) 4) simple enough that a "certified klutz" like me would be able to handle them I was not concerned with looks but they look very nice. As others have noted, the construction is very solid. After watching the video clip posted above, I had no issues installing the cables into the plugs. Each plug breaks down into three pieces and I placed each piece on the cable as I disassembled the plug to prevent me from screwing up the order (yes, I'm that much of a klutz). The tightening screw held the cable in securely. I'm not entirely convinced that the "compression thingy" does anything but I'm not concerned. Although there is space between the cable and the rim of the plug's entry hole, the "compression thingy" (technical term) is hidden in the middle of the plug, so I can't really see it to gauge its effectiveness. In any case, the cable does not yield to moderate tugging and I will be pulling on the plug, not the cable. The plugs fit snugly into the receiver but not so tightly that you have to be King Kong to pull them out. I can't comment on sound quality. I did everything I could to ensure good sound quality (e.g. good cable, Onkyo TX-SR805, Quad Lite speaker system and Furman power conditioner), which I believe I achieved. I am certain that, had I used banana plugs costing twice as much, I would not be able to hear a difference (but I'm not a trained audiophile). I give these five stars because they fulfill my requirements and are reasonably priced.
