Book Description

When a drug cartel attacks a cop, the rules apply. When they attack a cop's family, there are no rules.

Sergeant Robin Marlette's special narcotics squad has killed a dangerous drug courier and the brother of a prominent Mexican drug overlord. When Marlette's daughter is kidnapped as an act of revenge, it's a race against time to save her. Marlette and his team are very good at what they do-but are they good enough to defeat a drug cartel on its own turf?

Written by a 40-year law enforcement veteran, GOTU puts you side by side with the law enforcement brotherhood as they battle the world's most vicious criminals. GOTU will have you rooting for the good guys and turning the pages well into the night.

Praise for GOTU:

"GOTU is an action-packed roller coaster of a story about a team of tough cops waging war on the biggest drug cartel in Mexico. The book has the hard-hitting realism only a SWAT cop like Mike McNeff can write about because he spent years busting drug smugglers crossing the Ariaona/Mexican border." -Bob Mayer, New York Times Best Selling Author and former Special Forces A-Team Commander

"From the very first sentence, GOTU yanks the reader straight into the middle of non-stop action. McNeff's passion, credibility and real world experience is on every page; you won't be able to put this thriller down!" -Dave "Buck Savage" Smith, Author and Nationally Renowned Police Survival Expert

"GOTU - An exciting experience which captures the reader and throws them into the heart of the action from the first page onwards...." -Paul Anthony, Author and retired British detective

"Mike McNeff was always known as a cop's cop. He has brought his years of experience in law enforcement, along with his immense knowledge of the Southwest border to create a thriller that is as close to the real life drama of the war being waged against the drug cartels in Mexico as any publication out there. GOTU is action packed and a book you will find hard to put down." -Roger Vanderpool, retired Director of the Arizona Department of Public Safety and retired Sheriff of Pinal County, Arizona

3.0 out of 5 stars Sassy Peach Reviews: GOTU May 31, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
GOTU, by Mike McNeff, stands for "Gods of the Universe." Well, that's enough to get me to pick up a book! It doesn't take much, you know.

Sergeant Robin Marlette is a certified badass--he rocks and rolls and kills bad guys through the narcotics unit. When he kills a man during an international drug bust, it turns out to be the brother of a Mexican kingpin. Suddenly Marlette finds his daughter has been kidnapped as an act of retribution. Can he save her from an uncertain fate before it's too late?

This book was somewhat hard for me to get into because the first twenty percent of the book is the battle for the drugs. It is super heavy on the industry speak and a lot of it just wasn't my cup of tea. I need to point out, however, that this is my personal preference and it may be something that you, dear reader, might really enjoy. It was certainly action-packed and fast moving, and I could see someone like my brother really getting into it the high-octane action of the drug bust.

Things started to pick up for me when Marlette went home to his wife and kids. It was nice to read about this hard-core narcotics man with his family. The picture-perfect life that Marlette has is a great set up to the shatter that comes when his daughter is kidnapped. This was the sequence that kept my glued to the book and kept me clicking that Kindle turn-page. I won't give away the ending, but it was a hell of a ride.

3.0 out of 5 stars A thriller that packs a whole lot of punches May 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
GOTU is a thrilling and action-driven police drama that moves at a surprisingly fast pace, including frequent violent clashes, family drama and much more. At the heart of the novel is Robin Marlette, a maverick sergeant of the special narcotics squad and someone who everybody respects and looks up to. After the shooting of the brother of one of Mexico's leading drugs lords, things start to get a bit sticky.
From the first page, the novel is littered with technically sound language recreating the action and gun fights between Marlette's crack team and the Mexican drugs barons. As someone who doesn't read this type of literature often, it did make the beginning quite hard to get through but once I got into it, it improved significantly. The power of McNeff's work is the fact that Robin is not only a fantastic worker and policeman, we're given a hint to his background, his family life and it makes him a much more rounded character.
The only element of the novel that did not work for me in the slightest was the events that occurred between Robin and Angie, an agent on his squad. It detracted a little from the character I felt I had come to know and made me slightly disappointed. This element could have been left out and the novel would have remained thoroughly enjoyable.
The climax of this novel was fantastic, it felt like I had been drawn into a Hollywood blockbuster movie and as the story concludes, the reader is left in no doubt that there is more to come from Marlette and his squad. A thriller that packs a whole lot of punches and really captivates once you're in the thick of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great writing Mike! February 2, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Mike McNeff and I worked side by side as Sergeants for a lot of our years with the Arizona DPS, both in Highway Patrol, Training, Narcotics enforcement(Air Interdiction and Marijuana Eradication) and in the Special Operations Unit (SWAT.) He has the background and experience(believe me here)to put into writing some of the things he experienced as a DPS Sergeant and criminal prosecutor. I have been with him when we jumped out of Blackhawk helicopters in the middle of the Sonoran Desert in the middle of the night to capture airborne drug smugglers and their ground crews; on long surveillances, wiretaps, pen registers and SOU operations. I have been with Mike in training exercises with the USAF Silver Flag Alpha team in the middle of summer in the desert of Nellis AFB, Nevada. We got invited back to be instructors there! His SOU Team and mine were both comprised of veteran officers in our late 30s and early 40s with years of experience in investigations and tactical operations. Mike was a hard charger then and his character Robin Marlette is an extension of a man I admire and respect; Mike McNeff, police officer, criminal prosecutor, family man and friend. I wish I had his abilities, his intimate knowledge of the law and his way with words. He's pretty damn good with a firearm too.

I for one am looking forward to reading more of Robin Marlette and his crew of burned out cops turned hard chargers, doing some of the things we weren't allowed to do, but wanted to.

Mike, keep up the good work and pass some of your writing abilities on to this poor old broken down sergeant!

Colin
