2.0 out of 5 stars A rehashing of information you can find elsewhere, September 9, 2008
By
This review is from: GPS Navigation Guide (Spiral-bound)
I purchased this book hoping for some new or different information regarding the usage of a GPS receiver in combination with traditional map and compass navigation. However, the book reads as an extended, non-product specific owner's manual. Most of the information contained in the book came with your GPS already, and it's more relevant to your actual model of GPS. In addition to this, the book's layout is awkward and it tends to jump from topic to topic in a rather disintuitive fashion. Finally, the book contained many spelling errors, but this is minor compared to the lack of content.

If you are really interested in learning about navigation both with and without a GPS in the field, and are also interested in sound advice regarding wilderness experiences, I heartily recommend 'The Ultimate Desert Handbook'. It contains a treasure of information regarding navigation, staying found, and surviving in the wilderness.
