The boombox works surprisingly well as a portable speaker system for the ipod. I use it with an ipod touch G4 and the sound is very good and loud. It uses C cells so the battery life should be good. There is an adjustment to make it easier to insert whatever ipod model you have.
It only charges the ipod when used on line voltage, not when on batteries.
The am and fm radio is mediocre at best. The fm antenna only extends to 5 inches. I bought a $4 Radio Shack antenna and clamped it to the existing one. The reception was improved but it's still best to think of this as a external speaker for the ipod, not as a radio.

There is no indicator of what frequency the radio is tuned to! 'guess that's what they mean by "direct access". You just have to hunt around until you find the station that you want.

I bought this for my ten year old to listen and charge her ipod nano. I didn't want to spend alot since it was for a child. This was perfect. It's portable and compact. I like the way the handle is part of the shape and not a flip up one that can break off. This is great for someone younger. It's not some little cheap speaker and it's not some big elaborate system. The sound could be better but you get what you pay for and I'm very happy with this. So is my daughter.

I purchased this product and at first I was pleased with the sound, wasn't too much treble, would have liked a bit more bass, but then again the price was low, so I wasn't expecting BOSE quality. I used this to listen to both my iPhone 4 and my iPod, the connection was a bit wobbly when I would put either product and didn't feel like a snug fit, but it worked. Then, one day, I placed my iPod on the connecter and crack! The connector bent without me applying much pressure to it and now this item is an AM/FM radio with no more ability to play my iPod/iPhone, I am greatly disappointed as I have had this item for less than 6 months. I will save my pennies and spend more next time on a higher quality docking speaker system. This one deserves 1 star for lack of quality, it should have lasted more than 6 months period.

I bought this to take to the beach. It works for that purpose but I had shopped around for a unit that used small and few batteries. In the description it says it requires AA batteries, when in reality it requires C batteries (6 of them). I even went as far as to buy a pack of rechargeable AA batteries to use with it...only to not need them. Be weary if you are looking for this to not use a lot of batteries.

Bought this product for Christmas 2011 and have only used it maybe 20 times... At first the right speaker was much lower that the left one, but I dealt with it. Then this past month (6 months after purchase date) the iPod dock stopped charging now it will not play any music from playlist either; only the AM/FM rasio works. Called GPX Warranty and spoke to Mark the supervisor who said their is a strict 90 day warranty policy and they could do nothing but sell me a new one.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS, THE DEVICE IS POORLY MADE AND THE WARRANTY FOR 90 DAYS SHOWS THAT GPX WON'T EVEN STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS.

STAY AWAY FOM GPX PRODUCTS!

This little iPod radio is perfect for what your paying for it! It doesn't have super bass or super crisp highs, but your not buying this unit to get that. The sound is more than adequate. You buy this unit for it's portability and versatility. If you want super booming sound you're certainly not gonna get it for $30. If you want good sound with a little kick....the GPX portable boombox is a no-brainer. One of the best features of this little radio is the adjustable back wheel that you can set based on the type of iPod you have. This way you can press the buttons on your ipod without putting pressure on the the proprietary plug on the bottom. Anyone who's ever owned an ipod dock knows that those plugs break over time. So you should get long life from this device! For $30 bucks, you simply cannot go wrong!

I wanted a portable and stationary dock so I could use batteries and/or plug it in. I got this one because it was cheap but the plug doesn't stay in by itself. I had received one before and had to exchange it for the same reason. I now understand that they are all like this and the plug has to be in a certain way for it to work. It's annoying but it will have to do until I can buy another stationary one. Then this one will be the one I can take to the beach or park.
