5.0 out of 5 stars Great value
For about five dollars more than it takes to by a car kit for a CD Player, here you get a CD player as well! The player performs faultlessly when driven over the roughest terrain, the sound quality is good, and the unit is attractively finished in light blue. I was most impressed. The ear phones work well but are fragile, but who buys a CD Player for the ear phones? A...

2.0 out of 5 stars You Get What You Pay For
The price is right for this portable CD player, but it lacks the quality one might get for a few dollars more. The design itself is awkward. Loading the CD is a task unto itself, especially if you're using this in the car. The buttons range from being ultra-sensitive to being incredibly stubborn, which again does not make for ideal use in a car. Sound quality is...

2.0 out of 5 stars You Get What You Pay For, August 4, 2000
This review is from: GPX C3946BI Portable CD Player with Car Kit (Electronics)
The price is right for this portable CD player, but it lacks the quality one might get for a few dollars more. The design itself is awkward. Loading the CD is a task unto itself, especially if you're using this in the car. The buttons range from being ultra-sensitive to being incredibly stubborn, which again does not make for ideal use in a car. Sound quality is mediocre; there seem to be glitches in the track reading every so often. Since I have only used this CD player in my car, I can not attest to the quality of the headphones, but I can't imagine they could take much abuse. If you're looking for a CD player that doesn't do much more than simply play the CD, and if you're not overly concerned about true sound quality, then you might consider this machine. You might want to consider, however, spending a few dollars more to get a more reliable, sturdy product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Never trust GPX, July 1, 2000

This review is from: GPX C3946BI Portable CD Player with Car Kit (Electronics)
I have previously bought other electronics from GPX, such as theportable walkman, and have discovered what lies beneath the nice looks of GPX's line of products. The GPX line of products are rarely built well, and almost every product I have bought and heard had been very cheaply made. It makes you think that it cost little to manufacture them, but they sell them for a high price. First off, on this discman, the volume is messed up; they advertise volume control in the headphones but dont be fooled; the inline volume control just makes the music even more fuzzy. The ESP button does stick out, as the editorial reviews said, and if you put it next to something often when you pick it up again it will automatically switch off. The headphones are extremely cheap. The product will not skip, which is one of the few good things about this discman. But personally, I would rather have it skip a little instead of the fuzziness the headphones deliver. The price may be good; but at the expenses a new good pair of headphones (which are a must if you want this product) are going to be, your better off just using the money to overall buy a better and more expensive discman. Even if you are on a low budget, you can still get a KOSS or Memorex discman for 40.00 and below which are far better. If you want a good quality discman KOSS or Sony are your best bet. But to be safe, I would be sure to read the editorial reviews on these types of things. The customer reviews are also very often helpfull, but I think the editorial reviews get right down to the quality of the product, as well as some customer reviews, but not all...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD player, July 10, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: GPX C3946BI Portable CD Player with Car Kit (Electronics)
This is a great cd player. I just got it today and i've been using it a lot. I took it along in the car when i went out and it worked great. I didn't have the ESP on and it didn't hardly even skip. when i did turn the ESP on it worked great. The sound is great and the volume control is great.Since it has two was to control it you can turn the volume on high but if it gets to loud you can cange it quickly from the headphones. All in all it is a good player and i would recommend it

I love this product. Lots of features such as car-kit, repeat play, DBBS base sound, intro-check and 40-second shock protection. Especially, shock protection is surprising. Hey, sound never skip even if I shake the player like a bartender. Sound quality may be average, but it is worth paying only $50 for lots of features. Also I like neat silver and light-blue face.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the best!, March 28, 2002
This review is from: GPX C3946BI Portable CD Player with Car Kit (Electronics)
My mom got me this cd player as a backup to my almost 3 year old Aiwa cd player.I liked the cool look so much I had to have it!
When I got it...I was amazed it came with a AC adapter because alot of cheap ones don't.We both wanted to know how it sounded,so I played a cd on it right out of the box.My mom thought it sounded ok.The headphones are poor and [bad] in the bass department but do show some full-range dynamics.GPX calls them "digital headphones" but they are not!
I prefer to use my Sony headphones which gives the DBBS a REAL bass sound. The ESP is a God send.It makes this cd player unskipable beyond even the Sony's new anti-skip feature!
Yes it might stick out from the side like a sore thump, but if you put the HOLD button on it won't disengage when bumped(something the editor and 2 reviewers missed to examine).
The carkit is another God send,it works well.If you have a subwoofer the DBBS works very well in the bass department.Only cons I have is the headphones sound pretty [bad],and this cd player doesn't play CDRW's well.I highly recommend this cd player to people looking for a great, cheap discman that will play their CD's and CDR's(and don't mind buying a good pair of headphones).

1.0 out of 5 stars This CD player can be described by one inappropriate word, September 6, 2000
By
This review is from: GPX C3946BI Portable CD Player with Car Kit (Electronics)
I bought this CD player thinking with it's small size, nice design and the 40 second ESP feature will make me a happy person just listening to my music in peace. Within 2 weeks, I was near to killing this thing which GPX had the nerve to put on the market. For one, that anti-skip ESP feature means crap. The CD will skip even if you turn the player slightly sideways, something we all do. Secondly, it cuts off your music. The last song on all my CD's were about 3 minutes in length. Once the player reaches about half of that, the entire CD player shuts down and goes to the 1st song on the track. I click on the Fwd button to go back to that last song only to have it do the same thing again. Thirdly, the player won't last you very long. After 3 hate filled months of using this thing I plug it in one day to only find that it totally went nuts. It would only play the 1st song on the CD and start going hay wire when trying to play the rest. To note to all of you, I didn't buy this CD player from Amazon.com but at store. "Well he must have just gotten a broken one" is what you might be thinking, I did at first but then I found a band of people ready to go over to GPX headquarters and burn the place down for making this thing. Amazon.Com has more better CD players selections at the same price of this player so look towards those. As for this one, DO-NOT-CLICK-THE-BUY-BUTTON. So hit the "back" button on your browser and choose another player if not for me, but for your sanity
