4.0 out of 5 stars Good value for the money
This is by no means a high quality stereo. For alow volume, background music type situation it's great. I use it in the OR where it does a great job. Also it's very small an light which is another good feature. One major problem is that it doesn't have a track counter...but for this price, who cares?

1.0 out of 5 stars Extreme disappointment with poor fidelity and features
Unlike the first two customer reviews upon which I relied, I found this product to have such extemely poor fidelity that my $12.95 clock radio from the drugstore sounded good. If you want to play loud rock and roll over the sounds of kitchen appliances or home tools, this may be for you. It has so many poor features -- such as a CD player that has not automatic cutoff...

If you want to play loud rock and roll over the sounds of kitchen appliances or home tools, this may be for you. It has so many poor features -- such as a CD player that has not automatic cutoff after a disc has played -- that I could not recommend it at all. I am surprised that such a poor quality product is even offered by Amazon.com and I promptly returned it.

I ordered this radio for meetings and when I finally got it Iwas very dissapointed. They did miss one thing the Radio does not have atrack counter so you don't know what track your playing. Not Cool.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not for people with a good ear and not to really enjoy music, November 13, 1999
This review is from: GPX C983 CD Player AM/FM Stereo Cassette Recorder (Electronics)
This player has very poor sound quality for audio and radio play. CDs are Ok to listen to, mainly because CDs themselves have better sound quality. The stereo sound is very bad and CD programming is not very helpful too. For people with good ear and sensitive to the external noises, it is not a good item to buy. However, for people who just need to listen to some quick news on the radio, it is OK to have it in the kitchen....

3.0 out of 5 stars Good radio for the money. We use it in our son's bedroom., August 10, 2000

Don't expect to use this as a soundsystem for a party. The sound is lousy at higher volumes.

Overall quality is good. The CD player works very well and the tape player is fine too. Radio reception is very good. I can pick up some distant stations. The antennae isn't the greatest. The handle gets in the way of the antennae. We haven't had a single problem with it and we've used it daily for almost a year.

But it is a good deal for the money. I would buy one again.

We use is mostly in our 3 year old son's room to play some quiet bedtime music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Little Boom, November 30, 1999

As an entry level box, it is not bad for a child to get started with electronics. The compactability of the unit is terrific for small hands and the price is outstanding. A good value!

4.0 out of 5 stars PRETTY GOOD LOW-TECH CD PLAYER, November 26, 2001

My mom got me this CD player a couple years ago for Christmas and I have used it ever since. It doesn't really have the features of the more expensive stereo systems such as bass boost, surround sound, etc... but the sound quality is a lot better than these other reviewers are making it out to be(it seems like the only people who ever review electronics are people who got ones that don't work). It actually plays some of my CD's that are too scratched up for my expensive 45-second ESP portable CD player which is great because otherwise I would have ended up buying a whole bunch of newer CDs. I have noticed also that if it doesn't play a scratched CD the first time, it gets better with each time you play it. God knows why that is, but I'm not complaining. Anyway, this CD player has pretty good sound (the part in Led Zeppelin's What is and What Shall Never Be where the guitar goes back and forth between the left and right channels comes across great), it plays scratched CD's, and you should buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars This boombox sounds really great for a compact unit., September 2, 1999

This boombox sounds really great for a compact unit. It has all the features one would need to use. The sound that comes from this machine is quite remarkable. One would think that a small boombox would equal to "small" sound, however, not in this case.

I have a small table in the kitchen area which makes a good place to put it.

All in all, this boombox delivers good sound and reliability.
