Book Description

Christian Contemporary Romantic Suspense

A small-town girl seeks a perfect life with the perfect man, but learns too late that all that glitters isn't gold.

Gracie Soldano, a justice-seeking perfectionist fresh out of law school, dreams of a perfect life in her hometown of Miller's Creek, Texas. How could it be possible that the perfect man--who just happens to be her handsome colleague--expresses an interest in someone like her? But then an old boyfriend shows up with his kind heart and less-than-perfect persona, warning her away from the new love interest and messing around with her dreams of perfection.

In a cruel twist, a fall at the hands of manipulative people leaves Gracie teetering between vengeance and grace. In an attempt to help those who seek her destruction, she’s inadvertently caught in the cross-fire of a personal vendetta, and in a split-second her perfect dreams disintegrate in a heap of ashes. Can she–especially in the face of life-altering circumstances–bestow on her enemies the grace and mercy God has lavished on her?

Interview With The Author

Q - Why write stories about a small fictional town in Texas?

A - I grew up in a small Texas town, so I know all the pros and cons and absolute blessings of living in a place like Miller's Creek--a laid-back, down-home lifestyle, wonderful folks, and even a few who think it's their job to know everyone's personal business. The stories were designed to give readers an experience of feeling like they've arrived at a place that feels like home.

Although the Miller's Creek novels are technically classified as romances, they're really so much more: southern fiction, women's fiction (though I have a surprisingly high amount of men readers), suspense, comedy, drama, even a little bit of psychological thriller thrown in to keep readers turning pages. And each of the books carry a distinctive spiritual theme as well as an overall journey theme for the series. (Hence words like roads, path, way, pilgrimage, and bridge in the titles.)

Q - In what order should the books be read?

A - The books were created as stand-alone novels, so they can be read in any order. However, if you have OCD issues like me, you might want to read them in the order in which they were written:

-TEXAS ROADS
-A PATH LESS TRAVELED
-THE WAY OF GRACE
-PILGRIMAGE OF PROMISE
-A BRIDGE UNBROKEN (and its companion Bible study on the theme of forgiveness, THE FRAGRANCE OF CRUSHED VIOLETS)
-CROSSROADS (Coming Soon)

Q - So why will readers be interested in the Miller's Creek novels?

A - Based on reader reviews, I'd say the books are compelling reads for these five main reasons:

1. They make readers laugh one minute and tear up the next.
2. They offer plenty of conflict and tension to keep readers turning pages.
3. The setting is compelling. (Some readers have compared Miller's Creek to Mayberry, only Texas-style. And I've lost count of how many readers have told me they want to live in Miller's Creek.)
4. The characters are endearing and relatable.
5. The books' themes are spiritually impactful.

In addition, all the books are rated at 4.5 stars or higher.

Q - Have any plans to bundle the series into a collection?

A - Actually the first three books have been bundled. Readers can check out my Amazon author page for a full list of my book titles, including the collection. And a big shout out to my reader friends: Thanks for reading!

From the Author

As a lifelong perfectionist, I finally came to recognize the spiritual danger of trying to improve myself according to the world's standards. In this way, Gracie's struggle is my own. My prayer for all of us is that God will open our eyes to see the lavish grace He bestows with each breath we take, open our minds to grasp His love and goodness, and unlock our hearts and arms to share it with others.

Immersed in grace,
Cathy

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the other books in the series October 16, 2012
By EllieRN
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I read book 1 and book 2 and couldn't wait to read book 3. But what a disappointment! First, I did not find Grace a very likable person. She was always judging others, but expected people to overlook her own thoughtless, controlling and unkind behavior. She also made incredibly stupid decisions.
But the biggest problem for me was the religious message: that God wants us to sacrifice ourselves so others might live...even giving up our life because other lives are more worthwhile...even when those people are doing evil. That goes against all my religious beliefs. Grace felt God preferred she die if need be in order that others live. That because Jesus died for our sins and gave us the Grace of life and forgiveness, we should also be willing to give up our lives to show grace to others. No matter if they were doing evil, we should intentionally choose to die or put ourselves in harm's way if it were a choice of us or them living. I simply do not believe that is God's message to us. But that is just my personal opinion. Others may disagree completely.

The plot and story had moments when it held my interest. But it often made no sense and some of the characters were never fully developed. It wasn't until the very end when a casual reference explains why one of the characters is even part of the story. It just was not an enjoyable story. I really hope for better in the future from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Way of Grace February 9, 2013

Life's journey often takes down a pathway that doesn't always go the way we plan. Circumstances take us above and beyond what we can do under our human power, but when we allow our faith to carry us let God control we find His mercy and grace the greatest gift of all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Suspenseful, Inspirational Christian Fiction March 13, 2013

I enjoyed several themes in The Way of
Grace as well as the suspense and mystery.
Matt's faithfulness over the years in his feelings toward Grace and the lengths he went to take care of her and win her love were amazing. It was hard to watch Grace repeatedly make bad decisions and deal with her own flaws. Her personal and spiritual growth provided opportunities for readers to learn much about the power of God's love, mercy and grace. It also encouraged readers to assess whether there is need of forgiving self and/or others in their personal lives.
I will continue to read Cathy Bryant's writing.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Disappointing Read February 7, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was disappointed in this book. There is a theme that flows through the first three books that I just don't care for. Just my opinion folks. First and foremost, the female leads are not very likable at times, although Dani in book one had a bit more likability than Trish and Grace. Grace graduated in the top of her law class but, when it really counts, a smart girl she is not. One of the problems with the likability factor is how quickly and easily it is to lose interest in Grace (as well as the other gals) and cease to root for her, even to the point of not wanting Matt to be with her. I was hoping beyond hope that Matt would smarten up and find a new love interest. He deserved so much more than what he got. Grace was extremely fickle as was Trish in book two. Dani, in book one, was not quite so fickle as the other two.
The ridiculousness with Grace and Jason was beyond stupid. If she had truly loved Matt she would not have been with Jason in the way that she was. Garnering information is one thing but I believe she was beginning to really care for him.
As with the first two books, I feel there is too much sadness and way too few times for happiness, joy and just plain old fun.
I know that everyone has flaws and we are all sinners, who if we choose, can be saved by God's grace. Grace is a beautiful gift. A gift that is invaluable. I also believe that God wants us to extend that to others. But, I do not think God wants us to be a doormat. I think the "grace" issue was just too much, going way overboard. I personally don't believe God would want us to throw ourselves in front of a bullet and place our lives in unnecessary danger to protect a criminal, an evil person that was led by Satan. That could have been left up to the police and the FBI to take care of.

5.0 out of 5 stars awesome February 20, 2013

this book was awesome. The plot was easy to follow and keep up with the characters. I really liked the characters and they were so easy to fall in love with. They were relateable. I liked the twist and turns this book took you on. This was my second one to read by this author. I really enjoy her style of writing. I would definitely recommend it to young adults as well. I also enjoyed seeing the glimpse of some of the characters from the other books in this series. The content was clean and very wholesome.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Way of Grace is a very fine place. February 23, 2013

This is the first Cathy Bryant book I've read, and I was caught up in it from start to finish. With vivid and interesting characters, some strange twists and turns, and blessings behind difficulties, The Way of Grace was a great read. I was caught up with Gracie and her story, and the end of the book came too soon for me. Cathy Bryant is a fine Christian writer, and I can't wait to read her other books
