More About the Author

Matteo Bittanti is an artist, writer, curator, publisher, translator, and scholar. His artistic practice lies at the intersection of videogames, toys, cinema, and the web. His work has been exhibited in the United States, Canada, England, Scotland, Australia, France, and Italy. In 2012, Bittanti has formed the collective project COLL.EO with fellow artist Colleen Flaherty. As a curator, Bittanti has organized solo and group art exhibitions in various European countries including Italy (Teh Italians Do It Better!! at the 52nd Venice Biennale, with Domenico Quaranta, 2011), Switzerland, and Belgium. Bittanti's academic research focuses on the cultural, social, and theoretical aspects of emerging technologies, with an emphasis on their effects on communication, visual culture, and the arts. Bittanti investigates the social uses of media and new media art, especially Game Art. His approach is interdisciplinary in nature is situated at the intersection of media studies, game studies, visual studies, and contemporary art. Bittanti lives in San Francisco and Milan.
