We purchased a home with a wood stove and took some time this year to give it some love. After doing some research, I discovered that it is recommended to have a thermometer on the chimney, which we haven't had in the 3 years of living here. Received this in the mail quickly, and it looks exactly like the picture. Our stove is completely black, and I wasn't sure I wanted something so colorful, but it's great because we can see the temperature is ok without having to look too closely at it. Price is comparable to other sites. We haven't installed the screw because our chimney doesn't get too hot so it stays put.

Works well. I assume its reading is representative of the temperatures. Color is not too bright and offensive. Looks good on black stove. You sometimes have to tap it to get it to give current temperature as it occasionally gets a bit hung up on its way up. Not the end of the world.

I don't know exactly how exciting the graphics can be, but this does the job. I had intended on buying one of these for the top of my wood burning stove, but I accidentally bought the chimney version by accident. I just set it on top of my stove, and it works pretty good. I can't believe my stove actually gets as hot as it does. The only issue I have is that the gauge sometimes gets stuck when cooling off around 150 degrees. Just touch the needle with your finger, and it frees up.

The ChimGard Energy Meter Woodstove Thermometer is not only well made, easy to read, and easy to install; it's a potential life/home saver! For those who burn woodstoves, this is a "must have". The bright colors make it very easy to read without having to get up close and personal with the woodstove. The price is reasonable and worth every penny. I highly recommend the ChimGard.

I am really happy with this purchase, I bought 2. I bought 1 for my wood stove and 1 for the chimney pipe. The magnet is very strong, and it is very easy to read.

I got this for my parents, who have heated with wood for a LONG time - I think it is almost 27 years now. For them, it is more of a gadget. It attaches to the stovepipe with a magnet, which can be beneficial because at temperatures over 800 degrees (which you should only have with a flue fire), the magnet fails and it will fall to the floor. This might be the only notification you get of a flue fire. Other than that, it gives you a good temperature range to keep you from creating too much creosote.

I'd say this would be a good product for someone that heats with wood but the furnace is maybe in the basement. It doesn't work so well for those of us that have the woodstove in the center of the house because you already know if you are hot or cold.
