This review is from: GRAVES AND SASSOON (Battleground Europe) (Paperback)
This book is a very good introduction to two of the men whose poetic and prose expressions of the horrors of modern warfare helped to shape the anti-war literature of the 20th century. It offers essential biographical information for both Graves and Sassoon while profiling many of their contemporary influences. Additionally, it is offered as a travel guide for persons wishing to visit WW I battle sites in which both men fought.
I would also recommend viewing the film Behind The Lines (Regeneration) which portrays Sassoon's time in the mental hospital for his battle fatigue (PTSD). Graves and Wilfred Owen have brief appearances in the film. This book is highly recommended for the student of humanity, history of warfare, and in particular the Great War and its impact on shaping the later 20th century. |
