Following on from the BAFTA-winning GRID and BAFTA-nominated GRID 2, GRID Autosport is the new racing game from Code masters that brings alive the experience of becoming a professional racing driver. Immersing gamers in a world of contemporary motorsport with a wide range of different disciplines and series, players will choose how to build and shape their career. It's a world of breadth, of depth, of intensity and, of course, of the excitement that only racing cars can deliver. Racing alongside a teammate, players must overcome key rivals and satisfy team sponsors in ferocious races where every pass and position counts. In GRID Autosport's huge career, gamers specialize in their favorite racing discipline or conquer them all; players will feel the aggression of the pack in Touring Cars, manage Tyre wear and race into the night in Endurance events, race Open-Wheel cars with precision, show car control in Tuner events and react on the fly in Street races. Each unique category features series dedicated to different classes, including Touring Cars, Hyper cars, Endurance GT Cars, Prototypes, Single-Seaters, Super Modified vehicles, Drift cars and many, many more. Bursting with content, GRID Autosport features over 100 routes across 22 incredible locations and the world's most exciting contemporary and classic high-performance racing cars to collect, tune and upgrade. GRID Autosport's features and tone have been shaped through consultation with the GRID community, professional racing drivers and the experts from AUTOSPORT magazine. This includes the return of an in-car view and the most authentic handling in a GRID game yet. Multiplayer racing is powered by RaceNet to deliver new challenges every week from launch and sees the introduction of all-new RaceNet Racing Clubs for online team competition. Party modes, Demolition Derby and competitive split-screen modes all compliment the game's extensive career mode and expansive core online game.

I love racing games. I've owned the original Grid since that was released and then prepurchased both Grid 2 and Grid Autosport, based on all the hype. Grid 2, as most everyone knows, was a big disappointment. Grid Autosport, I would say, disappointed me as well, unfortunately. It's still a very good racing game. It's just not as good as I had hoped it would be and I still think that the original Grid is the best of the three.

I've not yet finished this game...maybe close to half way through it...
As mentioned, I love racing games, so I've played many of them.
I don't use a wheel...only the standard controller.
I don't play multiplayer.
And...I used to race real cars....not long, but long enough to have some experience in how it feels to race.

I like all the tracks so far. (except the drift tracks....more on that below)
So far, I like most of the cars (original Grid cars were better IMHO)
Graphics are great, but even as a working artist, it doesn't matter how good the graphics are....the game should be better.

Strange system of play. I'm still kind of at a loss as to what exactly constitutes a 'season'. Some seasons have as many as 12 races.....some seasons have only four? And the fact that you can sign on with different race teams simply makes it all confusing to me. I'd sooner sign onto one team, with one team mate, and stay that way until I finish my career. Or at least a few seasons.
You basically can't choose your cars as you could in Grid. Yes, you have a choice between two or three if you sign onto a different team, but it's still odd to me...maybe I'm used to simpler games? Maybe I have to keep playing to be able to drive better cars...not sure.

5.0 out of 5 stars TOCA/Return To Form For Codemasters! July 2, 2014
Platform for Display:Xbox 360|Edition:Black Edition
For those of you who were annoyed at Grid 2's arcadey/drift heavy gameplay and wished Codemasters would crank out a quality hardcore racer like the old TOCA games, this game will make you smile. Easy to navigate right from the start, you pick your race discipline and start your season. No lengthy cutscenes or narrative, this is straight up racing ranging from tuners to Formula cars. For me, the idea of racing Formula C cars was enough for a purchase but the other types of races are solid. Controls are tight and the realism of turn apexes and brake/tire wear is terrific. I LOVE that the game turns OFF racing lines by default (you can add them later). It's nice to actually have to learn a track and truly have to dedicate some time to it to place in the top three. If you're expecting an arcade racer, this isn't it. It's not a full on "sim" but there is a high level of challenging realism here. Visuals are gorgeous, damage models are sufficient and the music is great and unobtrusive. Truly a terrific racer from Codemasters. It's nice to see them return to the quality we've expected.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stellar Career Mode June 28, 2014
Platform for Display:Xbox 360|Edition:Black Edition
Grid Autosport (hereafter shortened to GAS) is a fine racing game but let's get this qualifier out of the way up front. If you buy it expecting arcade style action, drifting, races you can dominate with a super-tuned car, or to amass a huge garage collection: save your money. GAS has other features, but the core game is focused on closely contested racing against challenging AI drivers.

The main menu shows these modes of racing: Career, Online, Custom Cup. Custom Cup is just that, allowing you to set up any sort of race or series against the AI. Online is as you'd expect, the portal to lobbies where you can race against other Xbox Live players using the Gold account. There's also a RaceNet mode where you can race for in-game $$ on the Codemasters servers in rotating challenge events. These you'll race against AI drivers but the leaderboards also rank your times relative to other players.

Where the structure may seem strange to those of us used to your garage being the hub of all activity, in GAS it's not. The Garage and the buying/selling cars functions reside in Online, completely separate from the Career in which your cars are provided by the teams. The Garage cars can be tuned and customized, but they're for XBL racing.

The Career is what makes the game for me. The physics are quite pleasing, an accessible blend of arcade and sim. Five difficulty levels mean you should be able to find one that matches your skills. The AI is outstanding, probably in some measure due to tight collision detection. The AI drivers react differently in the several racing disciplines. In Touring Cars, the action can be rough and tumble, the AI drivers attacking and defending in a way that makes it easy to forget you're not racing real people.

4.0 out of 5 stars Racing fun! March 1, 2015
Platform for Display:Xbox 360| Edition:Black Edition|Verified Purchase
GRID Autosport is more of a return to form of the series' predecessors. A lot of content and disciplines. The career mode is a bit strange, but addictive.
If you're not already familiar, GRID is sim-cade. It tries to offer some of the experience and physics of a simulator but in a less in depth package. Races are short (relatively) there are no pit stops and all drivers and teams are fictional. The experience is tweak-able so you can have a assisted handling and breaking, no damage and suggested lines or you can go all out and turn off all assists, etc for a fairly realistic experience.

The "Limited Black Edition" is more of a sales gimmick, but you do get a few more liveries, a special AMG Benz Black Series and a few more sponsors. Since it's part of the package, go ahead and get if, otherwise it's $3 DLC.

Speaking of DLC, Codemasters offers it for this game. I like it, but not the price.

Bottom line: A content rich racer for those of us that didn't sell or are hanging on to our last gen systems.
