Very good study guide. Gives in depth answers, also, where possible, background information. Examples and photographs are also very helpful to people who do not have prior/practical experience with marine communications/navigation procedures and electronics.

Excellent study manual for radio techs seeking their G.R.O.L. (FCC General Radio Operators License) FCC license. The usual high quality publication from Gordon West. Include all the questions in the FCC question pool to study for exam. The book does not teach theory but reviews some basic materials as necessary to clarify and aide in study for the exam. Well published in a new larger format.

Ordered the GROL Plus Radar manual and believe it to be a major assist in obtaining my Element 3 and Radar certification. I'm sure there are others available, some I have reviewed but not as good as this one. Although there is a brief explaination discussing each question, the book and explainations are geared for individuals having an basic understanding of most aspects of Radio Communication, Operation, Installation and Repair. If your are going into this with little or no prior knowledge, you might find this a little vague and difficult to comprehend. The book gives several additional books for study and understanding which will give you additional information, assistance and knowledge. Overall, very good book.

Bought the book, took the test, ACE-ed the first test element 1, missed 3 out of 100 on element 3 and done, SO you want to pass the test and know a general knowledge of radio, BUY the book and just do it! Don't talk about it. Talk is cheaper than the book, but the book is fact and truth. Once done, it is your accomplishment to keep for life. besides, one sloppy meal at a resturant would cost more, and just add fat not knowledge. BWB out.

I ordered 3 books for my son. The one from Amazon came within a week. I ordered used books for the other 2. One took 2 weeks and the other never came! If you are like me and wait until the last minute it pays to buy new from Amazon.

I was led to the GROL book by the nose as I was studying for my Ham Extra exam. The same folks that produce this book, also produce the Ham radio question guide that is a companion book to the ARRL study guide.

My study for the GROL exam was composed of studying this book and the CommStudy app on the iPhone. The CommStudy app provides no instruction whatsoever, and there are aspects of the GROL+RADAR exam that I just have no background in ... hence this book. This book provides the absolute minimum content necessary to get through the exam. To that end, I would recommend skipping this book altogether. It helped in a few places, but there were so many questions where the explanation was just a repeat of the correct answer, I found myself questioning why one would spend the money. Acquaint yourself with Google and research the questions you don't understand on your own, is my recommendation.
