4.0 out of 5 stars
An exhaustive history of an American aircraft designer.,
By A Customer
This review is from: FROM THE GROUND UP (Hardcover)
Fred Weick was perhaps the most important person to single-handedly change the general aviation world through his design for safety. Extremely influentially, but sadly, seldom credited, he is responsible for the design of the propeller seen on every general aviation aircraft for the last fifty years. His work on the propeller, as well as the Ercoupe airplane, Pawnee agricultural spray plane as well as the NACA early years is recounted in this excellently-written history. It is most likely enjoyed by detail-hungry aviation enthusiasts, and clears up some of the myths of early aviation in America. A definite must for the aviation enthusiast, and much cheaper through Amazon than what I paid

I have loved Ercoupe airplanes for many years. It was only until recently that I actually became interested in the many things that make them so great, and that led to the discovery of Fred Weick and this great book. It is full of detailed and entertaining aviation history from the early 20th century forward and will be greatly enjoyed by aviation enthusiasts who want to dig deeper on the many contributions that Weick made to the industry during his lifetime (not just the Ercoupe!).
An excellent read that I could hardly put down once I got started with it! |
