Enjoy a gourmet feast while camping in the great outdoors with the Pinnacle Backpacker outdoor cookware set. The Pinnacle Backpacker set--which stacks conveniently and stores in a welded stuff sack--is fully equipped for the needs of two gourmet backpackers.

The set's folding gripping handle locks securely onto the pot and frypan.
The set starts with two pieces of traditional cookware: a 2-liter pot and an 8-inch frypan, both made using Teflon with Radiance technology. Tested and approved expressly for campware use, Teflon with Radiance items feature a specially formulated topcoat engineered to enhance heat dispersion and virtually eliminate hot spots. Moreover, the three-layer coating was built to survive the toughest conditions, and boasts an unprecedented level of scratch- and abrasion-resistance. The technology heats up 25 percent faster than traditional nonstick cookware while withstanding absurd levels of abuse. The pot and frypan also share a lid with a built-in strainer and a folding gripper that locks on to the sides to provide a secure handle while cooking.

The dishware steps up when it's time to eat, with two 14-ounce insulated mugs and two 14-ounce bowls. Each dish is made of Infinity clear polypropylene, an ultra-lightweight, completely recyclable, BPA-free alternative to polycarbonate resins. Not only is Infinity dishware 25 percent lighter than polycarbonate dishes, but it won't absorb odors like other plastics and will not leach plasticizers or other chemicals into either foods or beverages. Infinity pieces remain strong in both hot and cold conditions and are so light that they actually remain buoyant when filled with water. They're even dishwasher-safe, becoming more stain-resistant with every wash. As a bonus, the dishware comes with two Sip-It lids to virtually eliminate spills when you're drinking coffee or soda.

The Pinnacle Backpacker's best trait, however, may be its stackable design. The pieces nest together gently and fit inside a rugged stuff sack. Not only does the sack make storage and transport easy, but it also doubles as a sink or washbasin in camp, so you can quickly clean your dishes without hassle.

About GSI Outdoors
GSI opened its doors in 1985, after a small group of British Columbian siblings made their way down the West Coast to San Diego. Beginning with a few pieces of blue enamelware and a smattering of campfire accessories, GSI Outdoors grew through the years to include full design, manufacturing, sales, and marketing departments, all tasked with developing and marketing an ever-more-innovative line of outdoor cookware, tableware, and accessories. Siblings Don, Ian, and Kathy Scott eventually relocated to Spokane, Washington, where they continue to define innovation through the creation of unique, imaginative, and fun products that reassert their enthusiasm for the outdoors. GSI Outdoors is still a small, privately held company, with no obligation to shareholders, a corporate board, or anyone else aside from its customers and employees.

Product Description

Pinnacle 2L pot and frypan/lid is made of hard anodized aluminum coated with a non-stick 3-layer Teflon coating. The fitted frypan/lid serves as an independent 8" frypan or the 2L pot lid. A folding pot gripper locks and removes easily from pot or lid. A Lexan strainer lid is included. It fits both pot and frypan and makes it eay to drain liquid from either. The pot and lids fit into a stuff sack which is welded/waterproof to double as a wash basin. With a unique bronze color, Pinnacle reaches temperature 25% faster than traditional non-stick cookware while withstanding absurd levels of abuse.

I work on a trail crew and spend about 50% of my time camping, so I wanted to buy a cookset that would give me cooking options and would later be big enough for two people on hiking trips. It took me forever to decide if I wanted to buy this one or one of GSI's lighter 2-person sets, but I eventually decided on the Pinnacle Backpacker. The main reason I chose this set was actually the fry pan. It gets really old having to always eat instant meals and dehydrated foods. I have used the set for 3 months of continual cooking now and plan to continue using it.

The PROS: This product really has it all and is not very expensive. The design is pretty ingenious - none of MSR's nesting systems really come close to it and what they do have that is similar has been created with GSI's cooksets as inspiration. For what you get, I wouldn't say that the set is very heavy. The nonstick works well and so far the anodized aluminum has been very durable for me. I have used the set for about 3 months of continuous cooking (trail life can be really hard on equipment) and it seems to have held up decently well. After three months, the pot and pan come out without a ding. In general, I think GSI is a great company with inventive products. You can buy a mini utensil set with a pouch that is preformed to fit inside the set, adding more options (I thought that was a pretty cool idea and haven't seen it elsewhere).

The CONS: The main con I can point out about this and many of GSI's other cooksets is that their lexan lids melt to their pots. This is a known issue and has been complained about by many people who use the cooksets. If you use the product long enough and cook with the lid on the pot, count on the lid melting to the pot.

Great buy. I personally use it to carry and protect my stove (protect whats most valuable), and just let the cups/bowls float all stacked together in my pack. cups are pefect, the lids rock, nothing gets in them, and it keeps that morning coffee hot. If you are cooking things that work in bowls, the bowls work. however if you plan on cooking something more solid/non bowl shaped then your left supplying your own eating surface, but I mainly use freeze-dried packs so I've never had a problem. that being said its all easy to clean, lightweight, and versatile. Makes eating in the backcountry stressfree and easy!

I've used these cooking set twice, once at the beach and once in a mountain, and both times they have worked great. The food doesn't stick and the grip is very easy to take off and exchange between the pan and the pot. Plus it's very compact. The cups it includes are able to keep some degree of temperature, so it helps a lot either if it's hot or cold. I'll keep testing this set but so far i'm very pleased with the product.

This is a great set of cookware. The pot and fry pan are excellent, especially with the Teflon non-stick coating. It works great. I cooks some pancakes in the fry pan over a MSR Whisperliten International and they turned out great. ( the Whisperlight was tough getting a low enough heat output for pancakes, needless to say I burned some but nothing stuck to the pan!) I found the handle to get a bit toasty if left on while cooking but it was easy to get on and off while the pans where on the stove. The only drawback to this system is a lack of plates. The bowls and insulated mug things are good but they just can't replace a plate hence the four stars instead of five. I would recommend this very highly to a friend, but wouldn't have to because this is great for two people as is and with a couple more bowls/mugs would be a set fit to make enough food for four.
