Just pack up some paper filters in a baggie, the ground coffee, and you're good to go anywhere you can make hot water!

Worked great for brewing a cup of coffee each morning while backpacking.

This is a compactable version of a Melitta coffee filter cone. It flattens out to a thin, but fairly wide circle. Easy to pack in a suitcase or for car camping. A little too heavy and too big for backpacking though.

Takes a number 2 or 4 coffee filter and works just like the ones you have at home. When you first open it up, you'll notice a strong chemical smell. It goes away though as soon as you wash it with dishwashing soap (I use Dawn). The cone leaves no after-taste in your coffee. After a lot of use, there will be some dark staining on the cone and may smell a little of coffee. I've never put it in the dishwasher, but it's made of silicone so I don;t think the dishwasher would hurt it at all if you put it in the top rack.

Comes with its own drip saucer so you're not dripping everywhere after you've made your coffee.

Works just fine with bottled water dispensers that have a hot water option too, so you could take it to work too.

We liked it so much that we ended up getting a second one. Great product. We take the GSI Java cone everywhere we travel now, camping or hotel. Just pack up some paper filters in a baggie, the ground coffee, and you're good to go anywhere you can make hot water!

This thing just flat out works. I camp a lot in my magic bus and it's so easy to fire up the single burner Coleman, heat some water while I set this thing up over my coffee cup. Pour in the hot water and I got coffee. Easy to clean and folds down to nothing.

TIP: Pour about a 1/3 of your water slowly over the coffee to let it bloom, wait a few seconds then the rest making sure you soak all the grounds. I get my water to a full boil to make sure its plenty hot.

I enjoy a "very" fresh cup of coffee and this provides a very easy way to accomplish that. Recently took it on a trip and the convenience was all I had hoped for...easy to collapse, pack and use. I thought the Collapsible Coffee maker was a bit expensive until I received mine and realized how durable and well made the device really is. I use it every day and love how easy it is to wash and keep fresh and clean. Great product. For what it does...it's perfect.

I purchased this before going on a trip. I wanted an easy way to bring my own coffee. I already had a Melitta version of this, made from solid plastic, but needed something that would fold flat to go in a suitcase. I now use this all the time, and no longer use my original one.
The size is great - you can make a single cup of coffee, or a large pitcher. It easily makes up to 4 cups at a time.
I love that it can go in the dishwasher, and that the lip acts as both a trivet for the cone when you remove it from the cup, and also as a lid to keep the heat in while the coffee is dripping into the mug.
For anyone who is traveling and wants/needs to bring their own java - this is a great buy!

Bought two of these (one for home and one for the office) and use it all the time when making coffee for myself.

There is a strong initial odor that I think comes from the silicone, but that disappears with time and I don't think affects the taste of your coffee. However, despite numerous washes, the cone does have a lingering coffee smell. Not a big deal to me.

While the brewer is shaped as a cone, you should probably use basket filters (#4). In my experience, if you use cone filters or fold the basket filter into too much of a cone shape, the coffee will drip out at a snail's pace, probably not what you want.

The base of the drip maker is somewhat translucent, as it's meant to allow you to see how much coffee is dripping into your cup so you don't go overboard. However, while the idea is good, I don't think this feature is too effective for coffee-making purposes, as the steam from the coffee fogs up the base, making it difficult for you to see through it anyways. Therefore, much like any other single cone drip maker, you probably need to measure your water out beforehand or lift up the cone occasionally to make sure you don't over-fill your cup.

Other than the very minor issues noted above, this product is like any other drip coffee maker. Simple instructions:

(1) Put #4 filter into the maker and place the maker above your cup.

(1a) Run a bit of hot water through maker to wash the filter. Toss out that water.

(2) Put medium to fine coffee grinds into the maker (2 tbsp per 6 fl. oz. of 200 degree water, or whatever is your preference).

(3) Pour a bit of water into the maker, not so much as to fill the entire maker but just enough to saturate the grinds first in order to let the coffee grinds bloom.

This coffee maker has quickly become one of my favorite ways to make coffee.

Most of the places I go (friends, parents, significant other's houses) do not have decent coffee makers. Since I've gotten this, I have the ability to make great coffee pretty much anywhere. So long as I can boil water, I'm good to go.

What I like about it:
-It's extremely compact (it's taken up permanent residence in my backpack)
-It's easy to clean
-It's easy to use
-You can keep filters tucked inside of the lid, which makes the process of making coffee even easier

Things I don't like:
-It has a bit of an odd smell right out of the box

Overall this is a great coffee maker that makes a perfect addition to any backpack, car, or travel set.
