Ok, it's a cup. I realize that, but it's a 3.4 oz cup that can hold 17 oz. it's easy to clean, easy to hold with hot liquid in it, and easy on your shoulders in the pack. I like to carry a cup that's just for coffee in the morning and other drinks at night- and this does a great job of that. I don't like drinking out of my cook pot, so a lightweight cup is a key piece of gear for me. This has been a pretty indestructible cup with a lot of benefit for a low weight penalty.

I like GSI products but this cup chipped while in our bag and before it was even used the first time. We also had purchased the Sea to Summit mug from REI and it not only held up better but felt better in our hands, and had a surprisingly useful nylon cord off the top of the mug. I'm still giving this one 3 stars because it was comfortable, lightweight and did keep our beverages hot on cool mornings.

Loooove this mug both for camping and every day use! The insulated sleeve comes off so you can stick the mug in the dishwasher. Holds the perfect amount of hot tea for cold days :)

I hike the A.T. year round and tis cup has been a staple in my pack for years. I highly recommend it to prevent burned lips and campfire ash from getting in your drink.

I normally do not give 5 star reviews and this will be my first. Since purchasing this about 4 years ago, I've used this on about eight 3-7 nights canoe trips. The insulated sleeve is really what separates this mug from all the others. I have seen many of the same fellow paddlers trying different drinking cups/mugs on our travels. The ones that nest in the pots are great for pot systems, but they are a triangle (sorry...i don't drink out of triangles at home either), and either are not insulated, or the double walled ones are bigger or have less volume. Plus most folks store their stoves in their pots so out go the modular triangle cups.
I like my coffee/oatmeal/dinner mug food to stay hot. Likewise, I like my bourbon on the rocks to stay cold. The sleeve comes off for easy cleaning at home or in camp. Plus it's light and crush/shatter resistant and has a lid. It's a perfect combination of form and function.
I do see GSI now makes a similar one with a nylon strap handle which i'd probably be inclined to buy. You get a handle that takes no more space/weight and can use it to hang the cup off a branch/pack.

My husband and I are taking up backpacking again after a 30 hiatus raising a family, etc. and are in the process of replacing all of our old gear. This GSI mug is a far cry from the old stainless steel sierra cups of days gone by. The mug is light as a feather, yet sturdy and well made. The insulated sleeve slips right off when it's time to wash the inner container. Serves as a bowl as well as a mug. Keeps your coffee hot. We love GSI products - also recommend the GSI Java Press.

This is a great cup for backpacking. I really like the sippy lid, allowing me to be a little more careless about splashing, and only losing a little liquid if the cup falls over. The only thing I don't love is that the insulation sleeve is prone to getting dirty, and seems to have loosened a bit after a season of use. It doesn't fall off, it just needs to be pushed back up sometimes. Often if I"m not planning on hot drinks (in summer) I'll leave the sleeve home.

Simple things are best, easy to clean, just the right size. I use it on ten day wilderness canoe trips in Boundary Waters and Quetico. Hot coffee in the morning, oatmeal, soup, and wine with dinner around the campfire. Stable and balanced, so it doesn't easily tip over if you set it on a log or pine needles. I just love it.
