I can't believe how well this adapter works. I bought it for my ASUS netbook... the range on the wireless adapter isn't fantastic and won't work in our basement family room. (the batcave) Even my regular laptop only gets one bar in the batcave, but the netbook couldn't even pick up the signal from my router on the main floor. I tried a Belkin extended range wireless usb adapter. It was no better than the wifi adapter in the netbook and the driver install blew away the setup for the internal router in the netbook without warning. After a quick system restore, I repackaged and returned the Belkin and ordered the GSky with panel antenna. I just installed it in less than 5 minutes with no harm to my existing wireless adapter setup and the range is unbelievable. I am getting all bars (excellent signal) in the batcave. I can't wait to try it downtown to see how many signals I can get now. If you have a basement family room... this is the $20 answer to your problem. The range on this thing is fantastic and so is the price.

I'm an IT pro, and I have to say this a great little adapter. I've bought two of them now, for situations where a little extra reception was needed. Drivers for Windows 7 are indeed available for the Realtek chipset used in this model. Google is your friend!

I recently purchased this for my machine after reading that it worked on other Windows 7 computers. Windows 7 did find drivers after doing an automated search online. But whatever drivers it found were terrible, using [...] I was showing less than 0.5Mb/s where my wireless laptop next to me was showing over 10Mb/s. So I decided that I should download new drivers from the manufacturer. I went to [...] and downloaded the driver package there and unrar'ed it and inside was not drivers, but a website proposal for law services. I finally tried installing from the driver CD. At first I got an error saying "Operation System not supported" but Windows informed me that the program didn't install correctly and offered to rerun it with different settings. This time the drivers did install and my download speed went up to where I expected it. It appears drivers for Vista or XP will work fine.

I have a desktop in my house and a laptop in an office building which is a little over 300 feet away. I was sure hoping to find something that would carry the wifi signal and this adapter sure did the trick. I am receiving four out of five bars of signal strength and that is more than I could have ever hoped for. It was too easy. Just inserted the installation CD into my computer and just followed the screen commands. I was up and running and receiving a signal in about 10 minutes. This particular adapter was the lowest cost of the others and the technical data appeared to be very similar (if not the same) as the others. This thing is like an antenna on steroids! Now I need to be clear and fair about my computers and how they are laid out. My desktop computer (point of access) is deep in my house and not near any windows. There is a clear line of sight from the house to my office building 300 feet away and the laptop is sitting on a table about 3 feet away from a window which is facing the house. The speed on my laptop is amazing and I'm getting between 48 and 54 MBPS! Defininelty worth the money and the quick shipping from the seller was just an added bonus. Truly, a superb product at a great price!!

I'd like to start with the bad because it's fairly minor. The drivers that come with the wireless adapter are not compatible with window 7. They really should have included the window 7 drivers and they may already do. Buying this through a vendor we don't know how long the vendor has been sitting on this stock. You'll have to download the drivers from the Realtec website which is a hassle and it's mostly rough Chinese to English translation. Here is the link to their driver area. Look for device (RTL8187L). Under that device name click the Windows 7 (GO) link and the drivers should download to your system.

With the above noted I want to express just how great this device is. This has the best range and power of all the adapters I've owned. It was a breeze to setup and use. (Note) By breeze I mean you have installed wireless devices to your network before and you know how to do it. You are going to love how easy, quick, and powerful this adapter is.

If you are not tech savvy then you should save yourself the frustration and ask someone who understands wireless network devices to help.

I would also like to point out the the tech savvy crowd that installing just the drivers and not the software gave me the best result in speed and stability. Don't install g-sky's wireless software. There's no reason for a middle man. The windows wireless software seems to get the most speed and reliability out of it. Once again if you are not sure how to do this ask someone who is tech savvy.

I installed this on a 3 year old Acer Extensa 5420 laptop so I could get a stronger faster signal upstairs with the router downstairs. I am using Windows XP Pro.

There is nothing to help you install this other than the cd and I found the manual on the cd to be totally misleading. It directed me to uninstall the original wi-fi driver and then install their software drives and utility program. Then plug in the adapter. I futzed with it for over an hour without success, and finally came back to the reviews here to get a clue what I was doing wrong.

I read one review that stated that installation was easy and it didn't disturb their computer's built in wireless adapter. That was my clue that I shouldn't have uninstalled it. Another person wrote that they just plugged the adapter in and windows found it and then went through the windows installation protocol. That seemed so much easier than what I was dealing with when I followed the manual.

After doing a restore to my system to get it back to where it was before I began installing the new adapter this is all I did to install this:

1) After assembling the adapter antenna and cable I plugged it into my laptop.
2) Windows detected it and the installation screen appeared.
3) I put the cd that came with the adapter into my laptop.
4) I told Windows to look for the software and it located the correct drivers on the cd and installed them.

That was it. The only other thing I had to do was enter my network's pass key. No additional configuring was required. I moved the adapter around to a few different spots until I got the maximum speed, with 5 bars.

This thing picked up networks in the neighborhood I have never seen before so it really does the job.

I hope this helps anyone else. The installation is really easy IF YOU DON'T FOLLOW THE MANUAL.

Just a quick warning to mac users - unfortunately, contrary to claims of mac support on this product's website, and in fact even the packaging itself, there is no visible support for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard or Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - The drivers that ship with the device are for OS X 10.4 (Circa 2005), and appear to cause an immediate system crash on later versions. As of this writing, the GSky drivers page contains a single download - a Flash web design template for creating a legal website....

For my windows desktop, I absolutely LOVE this antenna. I have gone from 1 bars, to 4 bars, just by plugging it in. The WIN7 drivers are now automatic, so ignore the reviews saying they don't work etc. I am averaging at a solid 80% reception and 70% Signal Quality, and my router is in another building about 100ft. away.

Haven't gotten it working with my mac yet, but I will update when I do!

For twenty bucks, you really can't beat this AWESOME antenna! Buy a long USB cable to get even more range!

Works pretty well boosting strength, but it only lasts a few months... then the unit just dies! Too bad... I would not recommend this product at all.

I have been using this for a long times ago. the range is great. with my laptop's own wireless adapter, only 2 wifi connections is discovered, but with this one, I got a lot of wifi connections from my neighborhood. (More than 10) SO I know this one is much better than the built-in.

few things you may want to know:

First thing you may want to know is that this adapter won't work with Mac computer. There is no driver to install this in a Macintosh.

Second thing is that this device is direction sensitive. meaning the strength and quality of the connection depends on the direction of the antenna panel's direction.

Third is that this adapter works with aircrack, an application used to crack other's people's wifi password.

fourth, windows 7 can install this adapter without the driver setup.

In short, Great range, cheap price, works with windows, not works with mac, good for aircrack.
