This is an excellent resource for those working with or learning about GSM. While GSM has changed a bit since the publication of this book, the vast majority of the information remains applicable. The only information that I found missing was related to changes/additions that happened after the publishing of this book. All aspects of GSM are explained in an easy to understand way without omitting detail, as is so often the case in other books. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is interested in GSM.

I have worked on GSM sytems for over 3 years and have not seen a resource on the subject which is as detailed, comprehensive and easy to understand as this book. While it is true that you gain most of the knowledge through hands on experience in the industry and reading white papers, this book should be the starting point for every engineer or manager who wants to understand the subject. I first read this book 4 years ago, and even after you gain a lot of experience, believe me there will be times when you want to refer to a certain issue and scan through the pages of this book. The only downside is that, it is a little outdated, but the basics still remain the same for today's GSM systems.

The authors are among the people that made GSM happen. The book covers all the major and minor aspects of the GSM system and is organized in such a way that it can be very well accessed by all types of technical and non-technical readers. Very detailed schemata and analytical descriptions answer any question regarding, GSM origin, concept implementation, hardware, communication methods, Time & Frequency issues, security & billing. If you can aford the price it is worth it.

I learned more reading this book than during 2 years working in the cellular com. industry.

This is the most structured and systematic book that I've encounter while sourcing for information on GSM. The explaination is clear and to the point. It is easy to understand and covers basically all you need to know about GSM, in terms of the hardware, the protocol, everything.

Definitely a must read for people who would like to learn about GSM, even for people who has little background in this field.

...it's also readable, and interesting

I disagree that this book is that readable. For me, I learn most of GSM from websites and other books (e.g. Modern Personal Radio Systems). This book has all the details, but it is writen in a way that I have to read the same section 2 to 3 times (or even more) before I could understand a bit. Many websites have clearer explanation for GSM than this book. I don't think this is the book for beginners who know nothing about GSM, this book is simply not an efficient guide for learning GSM for beginners.
