Excellent one-tap solution to monitoring the Kindle Fire's remaining charge and battery usage. This app tells you how the battery is actually being used (percentages for screen, wi-fi active, held awake, app usage); and sends notifications (to the notification area at the top left of the home screen) that include the current charge level plus an estimate of the time left (based on your average usage).

If you choose "App Sucker" from the list menu, you see a list of apps that shows the percentage of battery consumed by each app. If you select a particular app, you get detailed stats on CPU usage, keep awake, wake locks, bytes sent and received, included packages, included processes, etc. These stats let you know which apps are power-hungry, and what they're doing.

This is exactly what I wanted for my Kindle Fire. Another battery monitor, BatteryTime Lite, which is apparently designed for cell phones, didn't work for me because it requires entry of the Kindle Fire's battery capacity (a figure that I don't have). This Badass Battery Monitor works off the Kindle Fire's battery charge level, so it works "out of the box" without needing any additional technical information.

EDITED 11/16/12:
I liked this app so well, that I purchased the version made specifically for the 1st Gen Kindle Fire (the GSam Battery Monitor (Kindle Tablet Edition)). Today I received my wi-fi Kindle Fire HD 8.9" tablet, and was delighted to find that the GSam Battery Monitor app for the Fire works with the new tablet, too. I didn't have to purchase a new version, as I did with quite a few of my existing non-HD Fire apps.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Amount of Information November 15, 2011

I've been using this for a couple days. I like the UI. There is a TON of battery usage data and it's really easy to access. There is a "known issue" regarding the notification bar icon not maintaining an accurate reading. This "known issue" is present on my phone. I have another battery level notification bar program that works without a problem. Epic 4G (Gingerbread)

Edited: Note that this problem has been fixed in the version of Badass Battery Monitor currently available in the Appstore.

I downloaded this app for the notification bar icon, but the amount of information that this app makes available is incredible and even though the notification bar icon is not updating as often as I expected I'll keep the app on my phone for the great/easy access to the battery usage data.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's OK March 7, 2012

It is a nicely written free APP but certain functions needs the full version to function properly on Kindle fire. I can fully understand why this app needs to run all the time (It has to monitor the processes) and most of the time this app is the only application that is taking most of the CPU cycles on my kindle fire. Also I did not like that the user does not have option to turn off the anonymous data that it collects and sends to the developers.

Well for a free version of a application it is a very well written software. Honestly speaking, I would suggest: Install the application run it for few hours check you battery performance and processes if you are not planning on installing new apps anytime soon and your battery is performing well then I suggest that you delete the app to conserve battery!

If you love to monitor your kindle fire's processes, battery performance charts and install new apps all the time for those people you can keep the app running at all times and monitor everything.

It is OK app. It is free! hence 3 stars!

1.0 out of 5 stars No way to exit app September 11, 2012
By ConBrio
This app does what I was looking for but I ended up deleting it because there's no way to exit the app and it became a contributor to the very problem I was trying to solve - apps draining the battery life. I would have kept it if I could run it on an as-needed basis.

This GSam Battery Monitor is an excellent utility to monitor your device's battery performance and for identifying the high usage sources. I installed this on my Kindle Fire to see if there was anything running that could be shutdown to give me longer battery life and it provided much more detailed results than expected.

When it first comes up, the screen shows a graphic of the current battery charge, how much time is left with your average usage, how much time is left with your average usage over the last 5-minutes, and a list of the highest usage items (i.e. "Screen", "WiFi", etc). If you want more detailed information, select "App Sucker" from the menu and the list of apps and their battery usage percentage will be displayed. You can also select "Charts" for a graphical display of your battery history and temperature or app usage.

This is a great free app that provides exactly what it promises.

Highly Recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Like a Charm July 22, 2012

This app is great...If you want a accurate icon for your status bar then this app's for you!! I noticed a review referring to a problem with the notification not being accurate on their device, but for me it has always worked perfectly and I have used this application for a very long time. It is easy to tell at a glance exactly what percent of power you have remaining. I first started using it when it was the "Badass Battery Monitor" I thought it was a cute name but it might have offended some people, or some might have thought it was not a serious app. This app has not ever caused any glitches or problems with my Toshiba Thrive system, it runs smoothly in the background. Give it a try, you'll like it!
