This usb connection will charge your Sprint HTC Hero if that is what your looking for. This connection will not allow you to connect to a computer for downloading files.

This cable does exactly what it says it does. While the plug is shaped like a regular USB micro connector and not shaped like the plug on the sync cable that came with the phone, it is NOT a regular USB cable. This cable will allow you to do everything that the original cable did: You will be able to sync your HTC Hero's calendar and contacts with your computer, it will allow you to mount the phone as a disk drive, and it will allow you to charge the HTC Hero. I tried it out because me original cable became frayed and this cable is even more solidly put together. Don't believe the reviews that say that this cable is only capable of charging the battery because it just isn't true.
