Book Description

What you will see with this road guide. Dennis Avery, landowner of Galleta Meadows Estates in Borrego Springs, California envisioned the landscape of his starkly beautiful desert property enhanced with the incredible steel welded sculptures of artist and welder Ricardo Breceda, based in Perris, California. About 130 of Breceda’s metal sculptures are now located in the Borrego Springs area. A round trip of about 22 miles on mostly paved roads allows you to see them all. Just a few are located on dirt roads, but the roads are negotiable by most cars.
The original sculptures were inspired by animals that lived millions of years ago in the Anza-Borrego area during the Plio-Pleistocene age. Later works were representative of local history, and pure whim and fantasy motivated the creation of many others. There is even a fully sized Willys Jeep CJ-3A with a driver and a passenger.
This guide takes you to each of the locations where individual pieces of art are placed or grouped.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love this desert art September 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a quick read because it is more of a booklet but the amazing metal art sculptures inspire me to visit them in person. This guide is complete with maps and history behind the masterpieces. It includes many photos of them too. If you like art and the desert this guide can be very helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Neat sculptures March 4, 2014

It is a simple guide to the various scupltures. It gives a starting point and a logical progression to visiting the various sculptures scattered in the region. It gives a little history and context to what you will be seeing. Nice little tour guide. It does not give specific locations like gps coordinates but you don't need something that detailed. You can see them from the road and just pull over if you want a closer look.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just get it May 3, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If you look at it merely in terms of words or pages per dollar, you would think you were paying way too much for a small brochure. But I've found it so useful and convenient to use on my Kindle while cruising around Borrego Springs looking for this art, that I encourage others to buy it too. You're going to be driving with your windows open, right, because it's hot and you love the desert. A paper guide is going to be blowing all over and getting messed up to the point of unreadability. This ebook, however, stays in its place and never gets damaged. It's everything you need to explore these sculptures.

This book made my trip out to Borrego Springs much more enjoyable although it was a little out of date when it comes to a couple of the sculptures that are now behind some gates
