I wear contacts while working on the computer at work, and naked eyes at home. One problem I always had at work is I would feel very tired a few hours into working. I stopped wearing contacts for a long time, years, and that problem went away. So I deduced my contacts were somehow causing me to feel drowsy. When I heard about these computer glasses I did some quick research and found people who said they really worked but just complained about the price. Since I was wanting to start back wearing contacts I just had to buy these.

First, they really do put a yellowish tint on everything, but after a while you just get used to white backgrounds being a tad yellowish. There is a +0.2 diopter prescription on the lenses so they're a tad like weak reading glasses. But personally I think it's the amber tint that really makes these glasses shine. I no longer feel drowsy while wearing my contacts when doing computer work. This is a huge plus because I can actually be more productive. I had a coworker try them out and he immediately noticed a difference. He, like I, discovered the screen is a lot easier to look at with these glasses than without. He doesn't need contacts or any vision correction to see normally, but even still he experiences headaches after using the computer for long periods; we're both software developers.

If you can find amber tinted lenses you can probably get the same effect as these glasses for a cheaper price. I think these should be priced around $50 or $60 maybe. Regardless, they do work as advertised so I'm happy with my purchase.

As a side note I've also tried some natural vision recovery throughout the years. One basic idea as to why so many people develop bad vision is because of excessive focusing of the eyes on close objects, computer screens and books the most common. I really think people need protection for their eyes if they're doing prolonged amounts of near work, the same as people operating heavy machinery have ear protection. I think glasses like these can help in this regard.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, July 9, 2009

I was a little skeptical that the glasses wouldn't perform as well as I had hoped. I was pleasantly surprised when the glasses reduced glare and stress on my eyes. A must for people tethered to a computer all day.

I've received this glasses and I'm satisfied with the product and it works for me. I would have to say that it help me in my daily task at work as I use the computer a lot. Delivery was within the promised time framed and there was no issues with delivery. I would definitely purchase this product again in the future and recommend it to others.

2.0 out of 5 stars Glasses are legitimate, but service unacceptable., January 17, 2012

I ordered these on Christmas day, figuring I could get them before I went back to school. It was almost 2 weeks before the package even shipped, and a week for the package to arrive, too late for me to bring them. I understand the shipping time wasn't a problem, however if the preparation was going to take 2 weeks I would have reconsidered my purchase. The glasses actually dropped in price by $10 since I bought them and I have yet to actually receive the glasses. A final kick to the teeth would be that although I received free shipping on the item, I was charged postage for the package.

My friend bought a pair himself and going off of them, they get the job done. They seem rather cheap feeling but the lenses do reduce strain and provide a small (but helpful) amount of magnification. The glasses I recommend, but not the service.

2.0 out of 5 stars Helps, but expensive for what it does, December 30, 2011

This review is from: GUNNAR Computer Eyewear - Wi-Five Onyx Frame (Personal Computers)
I think the main advantage of these glasses is the fact that it gets rid of the glare from the screen. I am able to see better just because the glare is no longer there. I don't use the glasses a lot because it makes my eyes feel wierd after using them for a long period of time. If you cycle them on and off I have a lot less of eye strain.

I do not beleive these are worth the money you would normally pay for them. I got them on sale for 80 but even that is probably too much to pay for what they do.

conclusion...work to help with glare but the price vastly out weighs the utility you get out of them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product!, April 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased these about 3 weeks ago. I ordered them to help prevent eye strain and just to see if they worked. I did notice the first time I put them on the "zoom" but it was mild, and did not cause any issue. I can wear these glasses all day without issue. I sometimes where them around while driving (because I forgot I had them on). They do have a yellow tint, but you grow accustomed to it. I would recommend them to a friend. I have had others in my office try them on and order a pair themselves. I plan on purchasing a pair of their sunglasses as well! Great product by Gunnar! Only thing that is not of my liking is the glasses bag it comes with. Doesn't work as well as my Oakley bag, so I just use the Oakley bag to clean these and there good to go!

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Very Well and Excellent Quality Frames, February 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: GUNNAR Computer Eyewear - Wi-Five Onyx Frame (Personal Computers)
In regards to how well the Gunnar Optiks Wi-Fives work, it works very well for helping you stare at computer screens without your eyes go blurry. At first, you'll have to get used to the slight magnification and amber tint, but after a while, it's comfortable enough that you don't notice you have them on, and taking them off, you'd realize that it's better to keep them on.

The lenses are top notch. I know Gunnar has these strange terms for the technologies that they use, and as far as I can tell they work. The coating really does reduce glare a lot, especially while working on my laptop in natural sunlight. They are also very fog resistant. Since I'm always used to cheap sunglasses, I was very surprised to see that the fog disappeared almost immediately while I was drinking coffee.

The frames are very high quality as well. It's definitely up there with the top frame makers, and I'd say the quality is up there with Oakley. As I said before, I am used to cheap sunglasses, and I am very surprised with how well these fit. I have a big head, and the frames have to stretch a little bit to fit me, and most glasses don't fit my nose well. These gunnars fit for a secure stay. I wouldn't go outside and do physical activity with it (well you shouldn't, anyways).

All in all, excellent product, and I will definitely buy more Gunnars in the future, including their sunglasses, and get rid of all my cheap sunglasses.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lens is too sensitive, September 13, 2011
This review is from: GUNNAR Computer Eyewear - Wi-Five Onyx Frame (Personal Computers)
The frame and style is to my liking but I'm not impressed with the durability of the lenses. Within the first day the lenses became smudged/scratched beyond what cleaning could fix. I'm not even sure how. I just put them on my face. I can't really see what my face was doing to the classes but I'm pretty sure Mr. Face wasn't scratching it. The imperfections make for some annoying distractions. Although, I hear that refocusing your eyes on near and far objects regularly can help reduce stress so the maybe the highly sensitive lenses were intentional...
