If you've been using Sebastian Potion 9 and want a cheaper alternative but want it to be the exact same product then look no further. At first I was hesitant about trying this product but I took the plunge ad bought it. So glad I did. This product works exactlyyyy like Sebastian Potion 9. If you look at the back of the bottle even the ingredients are exactly the same. The only thing different about this product compared to Sebastian is that I think this product is a little bit more runny so you have to be careful how much you use or else you'll end up looking greasy.

But hey, can't complain when you're getting an 8 ounce bottle for 6 dollars when normally you'd be paying about 7 dollars for a 1 ounce bottle of Sebastian at the Salon.

If you like Sebastian Potion 9 then you will definitly like this.

I have extremely thin, dry, color-treated hair, and this product made my hair soft and managable, and gave it a TON of body! I was worried that since my hair is so thin that this product would make it greasy, but that is NOT the case at all! I'm truly astounded that this product gave the life back to my hair that I've tried restoring with a ton of other products and couldn't find a happy balance! I use the GVP Volumizing Shampoo with the GVP Heat Activated Texture Spray at just the roots and my hair really looks full, healthly, and natural!

I was worried that even though this product contains the same ingredients as Sebastian Potion 9, it would be just different enough to disappoint. As it turns out I was pleasantly wrong. The only difference I have found between this and Sebastian Potion 9 is the fragrance. It smells similar, but there is a difference. If you use Potion 9 you won't be disappointed with this generic.

I've never tried Sebastian Potion 9, so I can't compare the two. I'm reviewing this product on it's own merits.

It's semi-thin and light orange, with a scent that isn't amazing but also nothing unpleasant. I have hair that gets weighed-down easily by products, and this GVP doesn't do that unless I use large globs of it. I like that it's a leave-in treatment, so I can just smooth it through my hair quickly and go out, no heat or blow-drying necessary. It probably gets rid of close to 70% of frizz, although the effect isn't terribly long-lasting and I see some frizz coming back after maybe 3-4 hours. Overall, it's a product that I like enough to use up, but not buy again. I'd rather spend extra for a product that gives me a bigger difference in the look and style of my hair. If you have hair that is easily weighed down by products and only need a little smoothing and frizz control, I could recommend this.

It might be worth noting that the total price (including shipping) has gone up since I bought it in late 2012, and a 5.1oz of SP#9 can be found on Amazon for under $14 now, so I'm not sure you're saving much money buying this generic version.

Good for the price. Not quite the consistency if potion 9 but seems to work as well.

Same color, fragrance and effectiveness as potion 9. I have thin curly hair and usually add quite a dollop of this after towel-drying to tame it, soften and weigh down the curls so they'll be a little looser. With this lower price I don't think about how much I'm using. Works extra well when you rub some Beautiful Curls Sculpting Wax Beautiful Curls Shea Butter Sculpting Wax 2oz. into your palm and then work in this product, together, and apply to hair.
