Too wordy but colorful illustrations,
This review is from: Gabby, God's Little Angel (Hardcover)
Gabby, God's Little Angel written by Sheila Walsh and illustrated by Marina Fedotova is a cute childrens story. It is about Gabby, a clumsy and talkative angel in training sent to protect a little girl named Sophie who also seems a bit clumsy. After reading that Walsh is a Women of Faith speaker and author of an award winning childrens book series, I was very disappointed in this read. The illustrations in the book are beautiful, very colorful and probably the only thing that kept my childrens attention. The book seemed a bit wordy and didn't need to be. The author tried to be "funny" and those little moments flew right over my childrens heads. I received this book for free from Thomas Nelson Publishers as part of their booksneeze.com blogger program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. This is a fun little children's book with a good religious theme to it. The illustrations are well done as is the story. Some pages seem to be a bit more 'wordy' that I would think is needed.

Little Gabby the Angel watches over Sophie in this bright and cheerful children's book. There's about 30 pages of big, expressive drawings and a simple story about Gabby coming to the rescue of her adventuresome charge riding Glitter the horse. The pictures by Marina Fedotova are quite good, simple and warm. The story stresses God's love for us, and that He puts angels to watch over us. Ps.91:9,11, Sophie talks with her mom about angels and prays to God in thanks. This is a cute tale by Sheila Walsh, readable by early elementary-aged children or, of course, by the parents outloud. A very positive, uplifiting message.

A gift of peace of mind for children in a hard world.,

I wanted to tell my grandaughter that she has a gaurdian angel. Her parents are divorced and she spends one week in the Godless home of one parent, and the next week in a not very spiritual home with her other parent. All this shuffling around is hard on her. This world is so hard to live in and especially when you start out with strikes against you. I wanted her to know that she is never alone, that God has sent her-her very own angel to watch over her, and when I read this to her I will tell her she never has to be afraid or alone, because she has an angel who sees and protects her from all she goes through and that she can talk to God and ask for His care and comfort. Her gaurdian angel will carry her through. This book is perfect for delivering the message I want my precious granddaughter to have and carry with her in her heart and mind. She is a good, sweet little girl that is already unsure where she is supposed to stand at the tender age of 3, I know this will help her understand that she is cared for , loved and protected, no matter what comes, because this book states all those things in a sweet, light hearted story that is full of bright colors , aressting illustrations and truth.I am giving it a 4 intseatd of a 5 because some of the storyline uses to many words, but I will tell her the story in a shortened form so the point is not lost in too much verbage for her age. One of my favorite things is that on the back of the book and on the back of the dust jacket is the bible verse "He has put his angels in carge of you. They will watch over you wherever you go." Psalm 91:11" So when she is old enough to read in a couple of years she won't even have to read the whole book, she can just read the back of the book and be reminded how much she is loved and cared for and protected, how comforting to know that no matter what comes God sees, knows, and has his angels watching and protecting her. Highly recomended book.

Gabby, God's Little Angel by Sheila Walsh is such a beautiful book. The illustrations are so pretty and the story captured the imagination of children. I especially love that the angel isn't perfect, but she is as active and loving as the little girl.

Lovely Little book for your Little Girl,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Gabby, God's Little Angel (Hardcover)
This is an adorable story for kids. Because the protagonist is a girl and the illustrations and cover art are very pink and "girly" it's really only a book that would appeal to little girls of the right age range. The story is fun to read aloud, it's a bit too much to have them read aloud to you because there is a lot of text. The artwork is sweet and full of pastels and sparkles. I loved the sweet little cherubic faces of the child angels. A lot of other reviewers seem to get hung up on the "falsehoods" about angels. I think this is silly. This is a children's book, the story has a good moral, it gets kids interested in God and Angels and it's good fun! Any kid would enjoy this book and kids won't get hung up whether the story is "true" or "false".

Review of 'Gabby, God's Little Angel: sent to show God's Love' by Sheila Walsh,
By Barbara Mascareno-Shaw (Henderson, NV) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gabby, God's Little Angel (Hardcover)
Do we ever wonder what values we should teach our children? As parents and caregivers, we provide clothing, food, shelter but what about spiritual growth. In this delightful book about a little angel named Gabby, she's appointed to look after a little human girl named Sophie on Earth. What a surprise for Gabby when she found out she was chosen by God for this so important mission: she was going to be Sophie's guardian angel. Sophie is a very active little girl. She loves to climb trees, ride ponies, and wants to take on an adventure everyday. But she doesn't realize the dangers of some of her actions until her guardian angel Gabby helps her along the way. One day, Sophie was getting ready to ride her pony when a dog stepped in front it, scaring him. She tilted one way and the other, almost falling off the pony. But in all that time, Gabby was there to help Sophie in her tough times. The lesson to be learned is that no matter how tough life can be, it's the faith in God and guardian angels that keeps us going. What a wonderful spiritual lesson to teach our children to keep faith and hope no matter what happens in life. Walsh greatly shows how important it is to keep strong, have faith, and to pray for guardian angels. The book is great to read with children of all ages. It has easy to read font, beautiful illustrations, a dedication page, and an important Bible message. If you're looking for an inspirational book for kids, this is a great book to dedicate to someone special.I received this book free from the publisher through the BookSneeze®.com book review bloggers program. Little Angel doesn't always stir,
By
This review is from: Gabby, God's Little Angel (Hardcover)
This book is a wonderful introduction for children into the world of Angels and God's love.Gabby is an Angel-in-training and God has just assigned her to watch over Sophie, a little girl with a unique ability to take risks and end up in hairy situations. Much like Gabby herself. Gabby does her best to watch over Sophie through the course of her first day on the job. While Gabby manages the task, she realizes that it's going to take a lot of work to keep Sophie safe. I have twin 4-year-old daughters and one of them really enjoys this book, the other could do with it. I'm not sure what the difference is, but that's how it shook out it my house. Whatever your house looks like, introducing young ones to Angels is a good idea in my book. Enjoy! I was given this book to review through ThomasNelson's BookSneeze program. Gabby, Gods little Angel,
This review is from: Gabby, God's Little Angel (Hardcover)
Gabby, God's Little Angel is a cute little story about an angel named Gabby watching over Sophie while she is riding a horse. The illustrations are adorable, telling the story within themselves. I love the idea of teaching children how God sends his angels to watch over, because I truly believe He does. I do have some mixed feelings on some of the things in the book, and I would definitely change a few things to this story to make sure my niece understands some of the things differently. I just don't want her having an incorrect view of angels, thinking that this cute little angel will always be flying around over her to protect her the rest of her life. That will make life's problems and difficult situations hard to explain. Sorry, not trying to be picky, just honest. However I do recommend this book to read to your child. The story is very cute, and I enjoy reading it to my 2 year old niece, teaching her that she doesn't have to be afraid of anything because of Jesus. "The Lord is your protection... He has put his angels in charge of you. They will watch over you wherever you go." - Psalm 91:9, 11Raffles, the senior Angel, is ready to train a very young group of Guardian Angels, but Gabby is missing. Gabby stands out among the others. She's prone to mishaps, and while the other girls wear simple frocks, Gabby wears a yellow tutu with flowers. Raffles informs them, they are going on new assignments. Gabby is sent to guard Sophie. Sophie needs a lot of protection, especially today.... This is the first in a new series, so I'm assuming both Guardian Angel Gabby and her new charge Sophie will be back in the next installment. Or maybe it will be one of the other young Angels. There's a cute little guy in a vest and trousers. Gabby God's Little Angel stretches across two age ranges... The graphics are great for youngsters age 4-6... The text is more for readers aged 7 to 10. The lesson in this text is fun and inspirational. The graphics are absolutely adorable! Highly recommended . recommended . |
