This album features Gabby Pahinui and his band. Late in his career Gabby was re-discovered by a whole new generation for his slack key virtuosity. His recordings of this period became popular with the masses. This styling overshadowed his unique guttural falsetto singing voice, and his talent as a steel guitar stylist. Today Gabby is still regarded by many as one of the best slack key players of all time.

Great stuff. Gabby, Atta Isaacs, two of Gabby's sons, Sonny Chillingsworth and other musicians combine for fine group sounds and beautiful music centered around slack key guitar. Joyful songs. Some traditional and somber. Lived up to expectations.

I must admit I didn't know of this performer; but found my way to him from a discography of Ry Cooder. I will usually buy anything that Ry has a hand in. Both hands preferably.The music from the Hawaiian Islands has always enchanted me; and this CD was a whole lot more than I thought it would be. Ry Cooder playing with him; was why I came to the CD. However now I have purchased 2 Cd's by the great Gabby Pahinui and am a fan.
