This review is from: Gabriel Chodos, Piano (Audio CD)
Generally, I like slow versions of the compositions. I can stand some fast too, but I prefer the slower ones. In op.111 case, the good fast ones are: Haskil, Backhaus, in the middle there are several, always fantastic versions with Richter and great Pollini. And slow ones ? Great Arrau, great Barenboim (all three), so, so Pogorelich and this one with Chodos. It is the slowest (23 minutes of Arietta!!!), but also one of the best. I dare to say, that if one is in the mood for this version, then it comes out as the best one! Quite much to say, isn't it?! It is very thoughtful, deep, metaphysical, really special. Schumann is great too. For sure, be aware of Chodos!
