From Dave Seaman's renaissance series comes "Tracking Treasure Down" which was my first introduction to gabriel and dresden. This cd has a mix of both male and female vocals, most people like one or the other. "Let Go" is a great opening track with female vocals from Molly bancroft. This is as modern as you can get. Bloom was a good album. It was innovative, deep, and progressive. Unfortunately, this last album didnt take hold of the same feeling. Gabriel and Dresden have taken what seems to be the new direction many DJ's have been going in...music creation over music mixing. This is not to say that creation is a terrible thing. Gabriel and Dresden managed to make a trance record, if that's what you call it, which sounds like modern pop with the likes of INXS. The mixing is fabolous, and the vocals even more. I was going to give this cd 4 stars but I'll make up for someone who is going to give it 2 for being a bunch of crap, which is far from the truth. Try Dave Seaman's renaissance which is another estounding album or Desyn Masiello's Balance 08 for the most current trance and house.

The genre needs a new direction, and the only way it will suceed is by experimenting with new sounds. The only problem with this current "new sound" trend is that it doesnt eminate the same kind of emotion that good progressive, trance, and house has in the past. Essentially, Gabriel and Dresden in their new album are looking for something new to bring to the table.I might even go so far as to say that a few of their songs stand out as being better than average. That is something to be commended. Techno is going nowhere without experimentation. But when I buy a CD, listen to it 3 times, and put it away to collect dust and give a listen to "some other time", that particular album in my books was not something to be amazed with. Therefore "Gabriel and Dresden" the album, is in my rating, "average".

Wow! What a horrible album! Its tracks are filled with a bunch of predictable outcomes and very cheesy vocals. The only two tunes that I have found to be interesting were Eleven and Sydney. Eleven is actually my favourite tune. Gabriel & Dresden had the potential as they made some quality productions - although most of them were a bit too commercial, but still quility - throughout years 2002-2004. Then they released the awesome, their best in my opinion, track Arcadia. After the release of Arcadia, I just thought it couldn't get better than this - an awsome production without any of that cheesiness that you would find in their earlier works. But the reality was that from that point on it just went downhill for these two. And this album just proves it. All of these tracks are well done and finished, but too finished and too uncreative. It actually didn't surprise me after hearing their Essential Mix back in spring. Basically they have great production skills but absolutely no ideas. I would recommend just buying track Eleven on 12" or mp3.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything you'd expect, July 26, 2007
This review is from: Gabriel & Dresden (Audio CD)
In my opinion this album deserves a space next to Homework. For an electronic album, these songs really do stand out as original, and Gabriel & Dresden do a great job of creating an atmosphere of energy throughout the album. Instead of the usual cut and dry buildup/release, everything is thrown at you at once, and then they pick apart the layers while kicking up the track. If you like tracking treasure down and especially if you like this kind of electronic music, I'd strongly recommending picking up this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars OH MY GOD, April 22, 2007
This review is from: Gabriel & Dresden (Audio CD)
After there mix on As the Rush Comes, as well as many others, I never thought this duo could get any better but they did. Dangerous Power is headed to be one of the greatest tracks ever. The rest of this album isn't to shabby eaither, with great everything. The thing that gets me excited is that people in all sources of music will have to take notice to this tremendous duo. I promise you, everyone is going to want them producing tracks for them soon enough. I am just so happy that trance as well as electronica is on it's way to the top here in the US, and with guys like Gabriel & Dresden, as well as Christopher Lawrence leading the way, we are all in for a great ride.

5.0 out of 5 stars G&D - Love it..., February 2, 2007
This review is from: Gabriel & Dresden (Audio CD)
I bought my first G&D album after listening to "As The Rush Comes" and some other mixes they have done on other albums. Buying Bloom was no mistake at all and the self-entitled album is very good too, although between the two, I prefer Bloom. Excellent work G&D.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a Hit, January 10, 2007

This was the first album by DJ's Josh Gabriel and Dave Dresden that I purchased. I had heard "Dangerous Power" and "Tracking Treasure Down" on the radio but I was suprised at the overall quality of the CD. When you buy a Gabriel & Dresden album you have quality from beginning to end.

I host a lot of parties, and I'll often throw in live recordings of DJ's I like, so the music is non stop and it flows. This is a very good cd for exactly that. It's not crazy jumpy happy hardcore techno, it's adult, it's progressive, it's everything you've come to expect from the duo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Dance/Pop, October 31, 2006
This review is from: Gabriel & Dresden (Audio CD)
Gabriel & Dresden have already established they can make great dance songs and dance remixes.

For their self titled release, G&D stray a bit from the sound many people were expecting. They take real chances and the come up with beautiful results.

G&D's sound:
"Tracking Treasure Down" shows off a raw, stripped down sound. Mollycuddle's main vocals have less effects on them. They sound natural and right upfront in the mix. "Enemy" has some beautiful moments. It's very reminiscent of Moby.

My favorite track is "Not Enough/Amsterdam interlude" which is a little more on the ambient side but I love the mixing. I hope they let Benny Benassi take a crack at "Dust in the Wind". There's a lot in that intro he could play with.

The songs:
All throughout are great pop songs that leave room to grow in forthcoming remixes or just be appreciated as is.

Overall:
People will come back to this CD for years to come.

Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Synth-pop returns..............with a Vengence, October 29, 2006

the "new direction" that some of the other reviewers are refering to, isn't anything new at all. Gabriel and Dresden have returned to the roots of electronic music with this release,(ie Depeche Mode, New Order, Kraftwerk) while tipping their hats to the "new wave" scene of the 1980's. If anyone likes the style of this album, then you might like other modern Synth groups, such as, Covenant, Syrian, Mesh, Iris, Nukleon, and De/Vision, to name a few. Also, checkout the releases from A Different Drum, they are an independant label that specializes in Synth-pop and Electro-Pop.

4.0 out of 5 stars not my cup of tea but..., October 17, 2006
By
This review is from: Gabriel & Dresden (Audio CD)
i just got it and i must say i am shocked. it is completely not what i expected. i assumed the tracks would be more along the lines of A Perfect Lie and the Wings remix. they no doubt whent in a different direction this time it just happens that it isnt one i like. thats not to say the album is bad, i think it excels in what it tries to do. nevertheless i liked a lot Let Go, Enemy, Mass Repeat and of course Tracking Treasure Down, there where just too many low key moments for me. the guys are great and the album also has great production quality.
