This review is from: Gabriel & the Lunatic Lover (Audio CD)
First of all, a caveat; this is classical music. Shades of Monteverdi's "Tancredi i Clorinda" only 21st century. Michael Cashmore's music and Marc Almond's voice create an other worldly experience. The lyrics are poems by the 19th century aristocrat Count Stenbock(1860-1895). The instrumentation is accoustical, violin-piano etc. This is recitative and not melody or chorus. It's very haunting and sweet. This is one to buy and hide away as it will gain in value over time,or if your planning to leave something to someone as part of your estate. "What does it all mean?" they'll be asking. Take a chance, buy it and a tin of sardines and a bottle of cheap chardonay, it's a real mood setter. Then when you're snockered put on Open All Night and dance the night away.
P.S. My Kitty liked it, she rolled around on the plush carpet and made
little Kitty noises to it. The last time she did that was to Fantasia on American Idol several years ago. This is one you'll kick yourself for not getting; like I did when I passed up the McCartney/Ginsberg "Skeletons". Hey Marc, have you ever thought of doing the Schoenberg "Pierrot Lunaire". I recomend the Jan Degaetani version if one is interested.
