13th in the Rogue Angel Series,
By
This review is from: Gabriel's Horn (Rogue Angel, Book 13) (Mass Market Paperback)
Annja Creed is a part-time archeologist, part-time tv host of Chasing History's Monsters, and full-time adventurer. After a dangerous attack on a European movie set, Annja finds herself shipped back to the States. But danger soon follows her back. And when a strange, homeless man appears who spouts warnings about the end of the world, Annja discovers that he may not be completely crazy. Meanwhile, Roux is on the trail of an antique painting that holds an incredible secret. And two deadly adversaries will stop at nothing to get their hands on it as well. This installment is probably one of the best since the original book Destiny. With plenty of action, adventure, mystery, and a hunt for artifacts, Gabriel's Horn, is a must read for any adventure fan. Mel Odom ghost-wrote this wonderful story, with intense action scenes and a deeper look into Annja and Garin's relationship. And leaves room for some interesting future situations. If you haven't been reading Rogue Angel, don't worry about the number of books. They don't need to be read in order, save the first one Destiny (also written by Mel Odom), as each is a completely different adventure. Archaeological adventures with a twist of fantasy, Rogue Angel is still one of my all time favorite series.

After the disappointment of Soul Stealer I was worried that the series was over. Thankfully, this isn't the case! Gabriel's Horn has everything that drew me to Rogue Angel in the first place. Thank you, Alex!!

Interesting blend of action/adventure/mystery. the author does a good job of presenting a believable character.

I love these books but have found myself inquiring about the relationships between the characters. I would like to see more character development of Garin, Roux and Annja. In Roux's case what he needs to do in order to fullfil their prophecy or prevent it in Garin's case. What of Annja's sword?? Is she simply required to prevent evil with it and there no other significance to it? I like the fact that Annja is needed to protect the world but I feel their needs to be more besides the usual archaeological adventure. I like that the author hints at her past and insecurity about her relationship with them by looking at her own life. This book actually did very well in trying to develop the relationships of all three characters but left many of the readers wanting more. However, it is a good start and I hope the author continues it.

Seconded: "Back on Track!",

I have all of the books in this series. I read book one and absolutely loved it. Since then, the books have gone a little off track, leaving many of the interesting characters that we started with making small guest appearances, if at all. The main character and heroine, Anya was hooking up with a different man in every book, losing the chemistry with the characters of Garin and Bart and limiting them to casual mentions or phone calls.
I really enjoyed this book; it reminded me of why I first loved the series to begin with, and I look forward to the new book #14 in September to see if things continue this way. There is now a graphic novel and I would love to see this made into a t.v series based on the graphic novel illustrations (which show Anya with her sword dressed in all black instead of the usual boring khaki uniform described in the book series) Anyways, 5 stars!

After being somewhat disappointed with a few of the other books in this series, things are looking up with this latest entry. The action and intrigue are back and the plot is entertaining. Well done.

the thing i didn't like about this book was the type of relashionship had by Garin and Annja. they should have one, don't get me wrong, because it just must happen by the laws of all good books that they slightly evil but mostly just meschievious (he's only slightly because he never goes and kills for no reason, he just gets what he wants which has been forgotten in this book as he seems to be torn between good and evil) male character has a relashionship with the kick but heroine.
The type of relashionship here was confusing. it would have been better had they been trying to infuriate each other. it would have made it funny and kept you reading to see what happens next (like tony and zeba on NCIS, or something). He would have declared war when she did something to get beck at him and it would have been better than this "what should i say?" "is this a date?" "I'm so nervous?" "what's up with the dress?" But otherwise, it was not a bad book. i liked it alot (i just would have liked it more that way, because the next few books don't even mention Garin and you get tired of waiting to see her and him together again, which, when it happened, wouldn't have been a big funny clash as it could have been, but will probably be akward and weird).

It doesn't matter if you are a man or woman; with this series, you are never disappointed. Annja is the Angelina Jolie of this series. Instead of two blazing guns, Annja uses the lost sword of Joan of Arc to cut through the evil that hides throughout the world. Using the sword only when needed, she balances her desire to be good against the potential evil the sword could bring. No man is a match for her when she is determined to reach her goal. Grab the entire series from Destiny to the latest and you won't be able to put them down until the last one and hopefully, that will be a long time from now!! |
