4.0 out of 5 stars A hodgepodge of hillbilly insanity!, April 18, 2003
This review is from: Gadzooks: Home Made Bootleg (Audio CD)
First, a warning... Mojo is not for everybody. If your sense of humor has shriveled up, due to political correctness or the pernicious influence of the Moral Majority, you'd best skip this CD. In fact, you're best off just forgetting that a person like Mojo Nixon exists.

But if you have an affinity for BBQ, Elvis, monster trucks, drugs, Chuck Berry, drag racing, beer, sex, and an all-around disrespect for the institutions that make this country great, this CD is just for you. This album consists of a decade's worth of outtakes, so don't expect continuity. Just sit back and enjoy the insanity.

And remember... if you ain't offended, you ain't paying attention!

4.0 out of 5 stars Mojo Nixon: America's Hick Hero, September 7, 1998
By A Customer

Mojo Nixon, who has been ignored by the general public for a very very very long time, returns with a damn fine album that thumbs it's nose at everything corporate and embraces the hillbilly side of us all. Mojo, Elvis would be proud.

This is without a doubt a worthy addition to ANY mojoholics collection to the great one. This is a rocking collection of song that most mojoholics haven't heard... and it's about time. This is a SMASHING album, giving us hits like 'Bring me the head of David Geffen', to 'Tulane' (My favorite.) Although I like 'Root Hog or Die' better, this is my second, near first, favorite. GO GET IT!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mojo once again balances Freud with NASCAR and BBQ., November 29, 1998
By A Customer

How can any album by Mojo be less than 5 stars? The songster does it once again by mixing soulful blues and frantic melodies with lyrics that make one ponder the true meaning of life. Or at least why crawfish and beer taste so good together.

This is one of Mojo's finest products. Elvis is Everywhere, Are You Drinking' With Me Jesus, Beer Ain't Drinking are all covered on this CD recorded in Austin, TX. You really get the feel of Mojo's live performances in his heyday. If you're a Mojo fan, you should have this CD.

If you can program your CD player to only play the odd-numbered songs, plus #6, you should have a pretty good time.

Half the songs are fantastic and the other half, mostly the even numbered ones, hurt my ears.

#1, #5 and #6 will never wear out.
