I bought this mat in hopes that it would inspire me to do yoga during business travel by protecting me from yukky hotel carpets. It worked! The mat is very thin, so don't expect cushion for your knees, but as most hotel rooms are carpeted, I don't feel that this is a problem. My biggest concern was whether it would fold up small enough to fit in my bag. I like to pack very light. It is perfect. It folds up to about the size and shape of a couple of t-shirts or a pair of jeans. It was so wonderful to stretch away the 10 hour flight when I finally got to my hotel. I was a little concerned about slipping on the soft towel-like surface, but my hands and feet stay put. I highly recommend this mat!

I have not used this mat as a travel mat but I have used it in place of a yoga towl over my regular mat. It is way better than other yoga towel brands which are much more expensive and don't have a lot of traction. There is high quality rubber on the back to prevent it from slipping and it is great for high intensity power classes. I highly recommend this over a yogitoes towel.

This travel mat does everything it says it will. It keeps you off hotel floors, packs small and light, doesn't slip, and makes a great cover for a "public" mat or carpet. I was skeptical when I bought it and I don't like Gaiam in general, but this travel mat is a must have for any yogi who travels at all or who engages in group practice.

I found these travel mats at a Marshall's on clearance for around $10 and though I might as well try them. i have tried literally every brand of skidless yoga towels (the terry/ microfiber ones with the sticky nubs on the bottom) but none of them would stay in place on top of my yoga mat during hot power yoga.

This have an entire side of thin plastic that doesn't budge AT ALL no matter how much you're moving around. While everyone else is constantly pushing back the edges of their towels I am not at all distracted by mine. Also, the plastic underside prevents any sweat at all from getting through to my mat - cutting down the amount of cleaning I have to do for it. I literally LOVE these (as a mat covering "towel"). I used it as an actual mat only one time, as I forgot my mat and it was ok - very thin, so an issue if you need a cushy surface.

This mat is AWESOME. I've got hyperhidrosis (excessive sweat production) in my hands and I ALWAYS slip and slide on any mat I use no matter what. I've taken to wearing suede weight-lifting gloves for all my Yoga sessions b/c they seem to be the only things that let me keep my hands planted securely. I picked up the Gaiam travel mat so I could take it with me on an upcoming trip - and it may just replace every single other mat I own! I tried it out a few times.... and my hands DO NOT SLIP no matter how sweaty I get!! The microfiber absorbs the moisture and the natural rubber keeps me stuck in place. I am AMAZED! No more weight-lifting gloves!! This mat also is perfect layered over those sometimes icky public mats you are given in some Yoga studios. Just plop the rubber side down on top of the communal mat, and you're good to go with your own sanitized layer of moisture-wicking super-stickiness.
The colors pictured on the site are way off, but I don't mind all that much, the thing has literally changed the way I practice -and I've been practicing regularly for years.
Two sweaty thumbs up from me!!

This mat is great for what it is advertised as - a convenient travel mat. The size it folds down to is amazingly easy to pack. However, it is quite thin and not substantial (padding not strength) so if you are used to a "normal" yoga mat - this is not the same. I would never use this mat at home as I prefer my regular yoga mat for that. However, bringing a rolled tube along for each business trip is not realistic for most people. Further, there is the knowledge that you are bringing your own mat from a sanitation perspective. The mat functions properly if your hotel room is carpeted. I also found it useful to place a couple of towels beneath it for added comfort. I would recommend this mat for travel if you want to continue with your yoga practice on the road. Hotel floors can be notoriously undercleaned (as in deep-cleaned), and this mat provides the ease of packing travelers need.

I bought this mat to use when traveling. It is light and does pack well but it's basically just a microfiber towel with a rubber back. It doesn't provide enough tracktion to do a downdog. My hands and feet were slipping off the mat. I dampened the towel and it did have better tracktion but then I'm laying on a wet towel which isn't all that pleasant. If you have a sweaty ashatanga practice this might be a good option when traveling but other then that I don't recommend it.

This yoga mat was a disappointment. Let's start out with the obvious: It is listed both as a travel MAT and a yoga TOWEL. That fact alone should have been a dead give-away that the product wasn't right for me! Multiple review (on Amazon as well as on other sites) mention that this mat/towel works best in hot yoga because of the increased traction on the towel side when your body/hands/feet are damp. As someone who does not practice hot yoga, I can't confirm or refute those claims. However, as someone who is returning this item LESS THAN 24 HOURS AFTER RECEIVING IT IN THE MAIL, I ask you to heed these warnings:
1. Don't try to do any variation of Warrior on this mat. You WILL slip (note the use of the term SLIP, not fall).
2. Flipping the towel-side down to practice on the mat/"sticky" side does not work. You will slip and slide AND stretch out the mat. This mat is NOT thick, so you can't be pulling it every which way.

Other comments....
1. This mat/towel is very thin. The description of the product says that it's thin. Don't whine about how thin it is and how little cushion it provides. That's stupid.
2. Yes, the odor is strong. Get over it. That's in the product description, too. Complaining about it is useless.
3. BECAUSE IT'S SO THIN this mat/towel folds and rolls with ease--as the product description promises it will! It weighs more than it looks like it will in the photos provided. SO, I suggest using common sense and remembering that the RUBBER part of the mat HAS to weigh SOMETHING in order to be durable.

Conclusion: If you want to purchase this to do seated stretches while traveling, I say "GO FOR IT." It's light-weight, machine-washable, foldable, rollable, cheap (compared to other travel mats).... But I say save yourself some money and stretch on the bed if you need to.
