About Gaiam
Gaiam was created as a lifestyle company with the vision that, given a choice, people would choose a lifestyle that is healthy and life enhancing, for themselves, their families, and the Earth. The Gaiam lifestyle is a vote for individual health as well as the future sustainability of the Earth's resources. Gaiam strives to provide customers with alternatives to traditional products by offering natural or healthy versions that compare with the style, quality, and price of conventional products.
Gaiam's goal is to become the trusted source and unifying brand for Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability (LOHAS) participants. The company understands that the opportunity to affect people's lives with information and products is both a privilege and a responsibility. Gaiam believes in the concept of Conscious Commerce, the practice of making purchasing decisions based on personal values and beliefs. It takes into consideration all the aspects of our lives and the impact we have upon the planet. Research indicates this concept appeals to approximately 50 million people in the U.S. alone. Gaiam's strategy in delivering the distinctive quality for which they are known is to partner with experts in health/wellness, eco-living, and personal development to develop proprietary products that meet customers' needs with meaningful solutions.
The name Gaiam is a fusion of the words Gaia (the name of Mother Earth from the Minoan civilization in ancient Crete), and I am, which reminds us that we are all interconnected with the Earth, the air, and the water, and very much a part of this living system that sustains us all.

Not for larger mats, and it shrunk when I washed it!,

I searched all over for a yoga mat bag, and ended up with this one. I liked that it was fairly inexpensive (made in China, by the way), cotton, durable, that it had a zippered pocket on the side, and that it had a drawstring that cinched up rather than one that I would have to tie in a bow every time I put the mat in. It has done the job of keeping my mat clean and dry for quite some time, but there are a few things I don't like about it.For one, once your mat is in the bag, it is difficult to put anything in the zippered pocket as it is flush with the mat. This can be overcome by putting your eyebag, cellphone, whatever in first. But it is a bit of a tight fit. (in other words, it is not a generously-sized pocket for storing much of anything.) Secondly, the bag itself doesn't cinch very far up over the top of mat; if you want your mat completely covered up so no dirt, dust, rain etc. gets on it, this bag is not the one for you. Finally, unless you have a thinner mat, and preferably not a rubber one that tends to unroll, you may have difficulty sliding the mat into the bag, particularly after you have used your mat a while as mats tend to flatten out over time and are not as tight as just after they have been factory sealed. If you want extra space for anything, you may be happier with one of the larger mat bags that Hugger Mugger makes. I found one on sale today, and may end up keeping it, though I find it hard to justify buying a whole new bag just because this Gaiam one is a bit tight. UPDATE June 2009 - I think the bag shrunk when I washed it - ACCCK! I washed the mat (Tapas Ultra) and mat at the same time (not together) and either the mat stretched (I doubt) or the bag shrunk. I washed the bag in COLD and dried it flat - no dryer and it does appear to have shrunk up. My mat now no longer fits - .5 to 1 inch now outside the drawstring top. Unfortunately, it will no longer work for me so I bought a new one from Barefoot Yoga. Bummer.

The Yoga Mat Bag is nice, but it's very difficult to get a sticky yoga mat down into this bag.

This so far is my favorite mat of all and honestly I was just a little afraid that I would be constantly fighting with it to get it back in the bag but NOPE, it goes back in just as easily as it came out.
