5.0 out of 5 stars Keep it Cool
Great hat fan. Perfect to stay cool in the summer. It is the best.

1.0 out of 5 stars Solar Powered Hat Fan
I found this fan to be next to useless in keeping me cool in that it did not generate even the most mild breeze. I truly could not detect any air movement whatsoever. I could not recommend this device for anything other than a science demonstration of converting solar energy into electrical and mechanical energy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for Southern Heat!, December 30, 2008

I purchased this fan with the intent on wearing it for watching sports in the summer in Southeastern North Carolina. The summers here are just unbearably hot!

The fan works just fine. It spins faster with more sun. I just wish the blades were longer and more flexible. If it had the blades like the hand held fans (soft flexible and long), it would probably cool better. The blades are short and rigid. (don't let them hit your forehead - ouch!)

However, as is, this fan doesn't cool very well.

Just OK.

1.0 out of 5 stars Total Junk, August 8, 2010
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
These are junk. Both of the units I ordered arrived broken. One due to how poorly it was mounted in it's original box, the other, had a bad solar panel and didn't operate at all. The unit that was broken due to it's box did work, but even in the brightest overhead sunlight moved so little air that it was a joke.

They are too heavy to be mounted on anything but a hard brimmed hat, and the product description warns about this. So don't expect to use them on anything other than a baseball cap or a cowboy hat. Also, they are so large that having them a few inches from your face does block your view unless the hat it tipped way up.

Neat idea, but these are not the solution. Save your money.

BTW, I couldn't get the company selling these to respond to several emails asking for a refund and finally had to file a complaint/dispute with Amazon. The company never did respond and I finally recieved a full refund from Amazon. Nice to see Amazon stand behind their reputation. I really appreciate that!

3.0 out of 5 stars Sun Safari Hat, July 14, 2010
This review is from: Gaiam Solar Powered Hat FanĀ (Sports)
I got a sun safari hat as a gift about ten years ago and was very happy with it.It made my lawn work almost fun!I was on my lawn tractor five years ago, went under a low hanging limb,it took the solar off which worked great! Before I knew it I had cut it to bits,so I wired it for just batteries. It worked great and still does, cool breeze, great when U have to four+acres in 95 degree heat! The batteries (2)lasted for a long long time!Well I got a new one on line,I was glad to see the picture on the box because it was the same as my old one,it has the fan blowing directly on your forehead. It cooled top of my head also! The new hat works fine, but it blows more on your face,I liked the old setup better, and the white rather than the brown, white does not get as hot it reflects heat. All in all I happy am happy with both hats.My old hat that am going to still use I gave a 5 out of 5,the new hat gets 3 and a half out of 5.

I bought this little gizmo to move air around my electronic outdoor temperature sensor. The morning sun makes the fan turn. It keeps turning as long as the sun shines directly on the solar panel and makes the temperature sensor read accurately. As far as I'm concerned, it works well.
