Lyrical and hot!,
By Angela Caperton "Eclectic Erotica" (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gaijin (Kindle Edition)
I've been fortunate to read a lot of Remittance Girl's works and have always been impressed. GAIJIN is no exception. This is erotica that challenges the senses and feeds the imagination with the beauty of the prose. Remittance Girl has a true gift with words, and this story, while raw with stark portrayals, also sings with unabashed beauty as we follow Jennifer through the trials put to her in modern day Japan at the hands of a brutal, yet sometimes tender, Yakuza boss. This is not romance, but there is no question that it is emotional and very, very hot.

Haunting tale that you can't put down.....,
By
This review is from: Gaijin (Kindle Edition)
This is a very interesting short story! It is a haunting tale that will leave you thinking about it days after you read it. It is about an English girl that has moved to Japan. She worked at this entertainment restaurant that was suppose to entertain Japanese business men (I think like an "American Hooters" where girls would serve them and entertain them, with flirting but that's all - I think). Anyways, she was kidnapped and raped by a drug lord because she had the audacity to ignore him at the place that she worked at. This made him furious because he wanted her......so he took her and held her against her will.
The villain kept her by force and raped her many times. He seemed very fascinated with her but he hated her on some level because she was foreign. Just when you wanted him dead, he would start being really nice - then mean - then nice. Then you would kind of start likening him and then you would realize that he was a very complex man, who I think was maybe a bit bipolar. I wasn't exactly sure how I felt about the relationship that transpired in the book. I kept wondering while I was reading the book - how I wanted it to end. I was very conflicted by it. I didn't know if I wanted them to fall in love or if I wished that she would escape. I think I started developing Stockholm syndrome myself. The sex was very hot and I felt a lot of different emotions in this book. The ending will shock you and I still don't know how I feel about that yet but you will have to read the book to see how you feel. It was definitely worth the money.

Geijin is a story about kidnapping & rape at it's core and is set in Japan where we've heard these stories in real life. Japan holds a facination for us romantically and the main character is no different. But she comes to understand a more harsh reality as she comes face to face with her own illusions about Japan. I love what the author does with his cock - she knows what makes for great sex and it was incredible. Whether you are looking for a well told story or great sex you won't be disappointed...this is one of those books that I wish I had in my library and would buy in paperback if it were available. If anyone does read it and wants to chat about it I'm on Twitter @fallendepths - I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Another book I've enjoyed from this author is The Waiting Room
If you liked this one, you'll also like Comfort Food by Kitty Thomas. These are similar stories with different endings.Comfort Food

Having been burned by surprisingly wretched downloads, I feel compelled to write a little something in praise of a book that is actually worth your time and your money. If you've read the summary and the other reviews, you get the basic idea. What I'd like to share is my recommendation of this work. It is far, far above the clumsy, trite writing that seems to abound (sigh). I give this five stars in the context of the genre. That being said, the author really strives to create a sensual, nuanced and realistic tale. I applaud (and thank) you, Remittance Girl, for your vision and your talent.

Wish I could have it in Paper,
By Kitty Thomas, Author (Arizona) - See all my reviews

I am a very big fan of the novella length. It's hard to keep my attention for a long work (though this book certainly would have kept my attention even if it had been longer), and I have a real appreciation for shorter works of fiction. I also feel that literary works and erotic works typically do better in shorter form.
I won't give a plot summary since others have already done that, and the book's official description beautifully summarizes what you're in for here. Gaijin deals with some very dark themes made darker by the fact that the novella goes to a place many stories won't go to... nonconsent where the victim has an orgasm. Though there is plenty of data to support this happening, some think in as many as 20% of all reported cases, it's still something that many people either are unaware of or unwilling to talk about. Remittance girl does a wonderful job exploring this area in a believable way. In many ways the plot of the story is very harsh but the author wraps you up in a warm bubble of lush literary awesomeness, handling the subject matter with both more realism and more finesse than you'll find most places. While the villain of the piece easily could have been painted as a two-dimensional cartoon villain, he isn't. He's multi-layered and you suspect that somewhere in there corroded by lack of use, is a soul. This is a story which will make you think long after you finish it. Many people judge a work of fiction by it's length, with the assumption that longer is better (hey now, no euphemisms). If you're the type who feels that way, then perhaps the length of a piece of fiction shouldn't be measured by the number of pages, but the number of days you remember it afterward.

I loved this read. I couldn't put it down. I was amazed at the honesty and brutality it described but not put off by it. Remittance girl weaves a tale that pulls you in so you feel the story. You feel the emotion of the characters.
While classified as Erotica it was not just a story that was about sex wrapped in some porno-style plot. The sex and intimacy between you and the characters made it more than just Erotica. It was delightful to read. Now I want to read it again.

Darkly erotic and captivating,

From beginning to end Gaijin is a gripping read. Remittance Girl shows her craft and skill as you are pulled into the Yakuza world and immersed along with Jennifer. Through the novella I felt a whole range of emotions, including shock that I was still reading as the heroine suffered still further humiliations.
I cannot recommend Gaijin enough if you want to read erotica that makes you think, that makes you wonder at the human condition, that startles you in its ability to arouse you. It is a powerful story delivered with exquisite skill.

Desperate Beauty in the Midst of Ugliness,
By Claudia D. Christian (Gainesville, GA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gaijin (Kindle Edition)
Remittance Girl (RG) hooks you in from the first sentence and doesn't let go. Her palette is swift, poetic, and violent. Strangers to Japan see this alien world through eyes marked with confusion, fear, fascination, and lust. Personally, I am repelled, fascinated, and adoring of Japanese culture. I feel RG intuitively allows the readers to express those very same emotions through Jennifer.
A stranger in a strange land who shuffles into a world within a world, proving centuries-old mythology isn't dead--it's only adapted. The erotica deliberately cuts in certain passages, swathes us in others. Shindo's motivations, sparse as they may be, fascinate me. Pebbles of information lead us toward his past, giving the reader bits to ruminate over but not enough for conclusion. Jennifer's docility and defiance undulate like the shadows on a wall. They are as difficult to predict as Shindo's moods. The ending can be controversial depending on what Gaijin invokes with you. I won't say which way I fell but I will say that I wasn't ready for the story to be over. I really, really wasn't. It goes without saying that I look forward to RG's next work. If you buy this ebook I'm sure you'll be waiting right alongside me.

A mind blowing HOT erotic read that will short out your senses.....,
By
This review is from: Gaijin (Kindle Edition)
At the request of a friend I read this book. I am SO GLAD I did. While I don't typically like short stories this one was PERFECT in every sense of the word. The story istelf was extremely well written. There is rape, erotic/emotional torment and ones struggle to come to grips with it. The leading man left me conflicted at times because of his denial of how Jennifer affected him. I my favorite part was the balcony scene. My favorite part about the story itself was about the forest and the lady that she spoke while she was there.
If you like different, then this is a short read guaranteed to blow you away. I can not wait to read more from this author.
