An excellent guide for capacity management in small manufc,
By Antonio Cardona (antonioc@coqui.net) (Puerto Rico, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gaining Control: Capacity Management and Scheduling (Paperback)
This straight forward guide is an excellent reference book for small to mid-sized manufacturers or workshops. While it will not give you all of the answers towards capacity planning, it should provide you with enough reference information to develop your own system tailored towards your specific operation's needs.

This review is from: Gaining Control: Capacity Management and Scheduling (Paperback)
This is an easy to read and follow book with alot of good fundamental information on scheduling and capacity planning, which is important in a production environment. It's narrated as a fictitous story that takes place in a factory, but luckily the author doesn't dwell on a lame plot or irrelevant character development; he gets to the business at hand fast. This book is a good introduction for production supervisors/managers, planners, manufacturing engineers, or other similar positions in this field. It has good examples, good illustrations, and identifies some important issues with capacity & scheduling management. For example, there is sufficient detail to understand how bad data in routing sheets, standard times, and work centers can produce useless MRPII reports and force reliance on other less efficient manual methods to perform this function. The author also provides simple and easy to implement solutions to these problems. In summary, it's a basic book that's both easy and interesting to read which provides important insights to problems and solutions in this complex field. |
