In this gripping narrative we hear of many historical events which cause perilous times for the fledgling church. Gaius tells of the fall of Jerusalem and the martyrdom of Christians torn apart by wild animals in the Colosseum and of others perishing as human torches in Nero’s garden.
Near the end of the book Paul’s own death is very movingly described. His friends shout encouragement as Paul approaches his execution: "We will fight the good fight . . . as did you."
"We will carry on!"
Despite seeming overwhelming persection, the church survives and successfully incorporates Gentile and Jewish Christians with the incredible shepherding of two apostles: Paul (founder of many Gentile churches) and Peter (Jesus’ disciple and head of the Jerusalem church).

Fantastic Book ... with one caution.,

This review is from: The Gaius Diary (First-Century Diaries) (Paperback)
I love all 5 books in this series, and it's done wonders for my understanding and appreciation of the New Testament. My only negative comment (and it's only one among a host of loves for this series) is that the author seems to have some issues with church leadership, and all through the series there are little comments about leaders that start undermining leaders and elders in churches. Although there is much abuse at times by leaders - he seems to go too far away and inserts his preferences as "biblical" in these books.
Other than that, very useful books in getting to understand the context in which Paul's letters were written, and much of the NT for that matter.
