Gal Costa's voice is said to be one of Brazil's main exports.It is.In fact,it shines and sells itself throughout this epic musical work begotten by her and her production team.From SAMBA RASGADO to ESTRADA DO SOL,through DEZ ANOS and FORCA ESTRANHA,the Diva from Bahia leaves you enchanted via her incredible vocal ability and rhythmic capability.You will finish the album and play it again and again in awe.

As a very great fan of Gal Costa I want to say that this record is her very best.And I have them all! Her voice has never been better and more various than at this production. Who did not know her before must fall in love with this voice after listening this CD.

En 1979 Gal Costa montó el espectáculo Gal Tropical. He aquí el álbum que recopila el repertorio que mostró durante aquella temporada. Si bien no tengo muchos más antecedentes sobre él y es el primer L.P. que compro y escucho íntegramente de Gal Costa, quedé gratamente impresionado. Tiene ese sonido pulcro de la música brasileña de la década del setenta y una excelente calidad técnica. La interpretación de Gal es simplemente sobervia y las canciones recorren autores tan destacados como Caetano Veloso y Roberto Carlos. Aquí Gal Costa nos muestra que para ser tropical no hay que sólo tocar samba, también la bossa es parte del repertorio y la música tradicional no sólo de Brasil sino que además algún bolerito. Pero sin duda lo mejor es cuando empiezan los tambores y el ritmo acelerado se apodera de todo.

You guys remember that old commercial where a lady singer's voice comming thru the speaker shatters a wine glass. I have always doubted the validity of that commercial but if any singer should be able to do it, this lady is it! Okay, so I gave it a star short, only because a few of songs kinda went over my head and sounded to me like random noise like #5 "A Preta Do Acaraje" and #11 "O Bater do Tambor" maybe because I am not Brazillian or that my portuguese is practically nil. But the songs "India," "Estrada do Sol" and "Olha" more than makes up for this. No kidding but I think Gal Costa's voice is the world's 8th wonder. It is strong like silk, all encompassing like a tropical wave and sexier than Tom Cruise's smile. I kid you not!

Gal Costa and the other "Baianos" (Caetano Veloso e Maria Bethania) are all family related and they make great music. I believe that this was the first very successfull record by Gal Costa that gve her the big push to success. I have the vinil version in my attic, but I had to have this CD to play every day.
