This is a toy gun is a blast at work and looks and sounds great in a dark room. Lots of reviewers wrote about the short functional life of this toy due to the poor wire connections at the solder points. Seems the vibrations and bumps from moderate use of ray gun causes these connections to fail.

I was able fix this issue by taking the gun apart once it arrived, you will need a small Phillips screw driver and a small container to store all the tiny screws while the toy is in two parts. One great thing about the build of this unit is that all of the wires and components stay on only one side of the gun housing so nothing pops or springs away once the gun is apart. Then using any hot glue gun I just placed a small dab of hot glue on all of the solder connections, as I did this I was able to pull the trigger every now and then to confirm that the glue didn't effect the electrical functioning. I found it was much easier to just dip a toothpick into a drop of molten glue and then put the small amount on the pick directly on the wire connections. Then you realign the two sides, pretty easy, and replace all the tiny screws. I've had this toy ray gun for a few weeks now with lots of use and absolutely no issues!

I think NASA did this same type of repair on the computer wiring of the aging space shuttles.

I bought this toy to butcher for the electronics for a homemade ray gun project of mine and I am SO GLAD I DID. This is an awesome toy gun. There is another variation out there called the 'Schylling Cosmic Blaster' which looks like the gun from Blade Runner (sort of) with a drill-like motorized lighted center.

This GALACTIC LIGHT BLASTER has a wicked blaster sound effect with a 'rapid fire' variation, and three light shows going on for as long as you hold the trigger...

1) the sight gives off a steady red light (supposed to be a laser sight?)

2) the tip flashes red

3) holy mother of god the lightshow that goes on in the orb in the center is entrancing. There is a paddle that spins around in this clear globe with LED lights flashing in a random pattern... (I wish I had one of these in college, wink wink)... that produces a pretty wild light pattern.

and

4) there is a rear light that goes on after you take your finger off the trigger... I guess this is the recoil nullifier (TM)??

"Someone knew what they were doing when they designed this toy," says my wife. It probably will eat up the batteries, but it is just so much fun terrorizing my cats with this toy! What a great find! If I didn't already have a plan to place these electronics into a different casing, I would have just masked off the lights and painted this bad boy some different colors, because the chrome and primary blue is just so gaudy.

This looked like a really good ray gun, cute and awesome, with lots of flashy lights and nice noises. It also got great reviews. So I got it for a Christmas gift, and it only worked when held sideways. Before too long it stopped working period. We tried repairing it ourselves, changed it's batteries, etc., but it still doesn't work. Chances are, the one you will get will be awesome, but the one we got didn't work, and I thought I should warn you.

Oh, and I gave it only one star in "educational," because, I mean come on, it's a ray gun, you don't expect it to be very educational. That would take the point out.

I bought this toy for my 4yr old who loves anything with lights and sounds. It's a fun toy for him and it has batteries already included. Also, the toy shipped out super fast with standard shipping and arrived the next day! Thanks for the awesome customer service!

As other reviewers have stated, this blaster rocks. My blaster arrived half functional, sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. I took it apart to fix it (lots of tiny screws). The red blaster trigger, when pulled, must touch a spring inside the gun to close a circuit to activate the blaster. This spring came off of its post, so I super glued it back on. Pheeww.. back working again.. for awhile... then it stopped again.. so I took it apart again... this time a wire had broken off its solder joint.. so I fixed that... pheeww.. back working again.. for awhile.. then it stopped.. what now.. so i took it apart again.. now a few of the plastic screw joints have broken from taking it apart twice.. oh well, don't need those as there are so many other screws holding it together...found another broken solder joint near where the motor spins... so I fixed that.. uggg. back working again... and so on... Three words: "Made In China". Cool toy, but way way cheap, but for ~$10, what do ya expect?

Bought this for my 3-1/2 year old son. He absolutely loves the bright flashing lights and sounds this toy makes. I really couldn't find the right kind of toy gun at local stores, so I tried looking on Amazon. Great price and the quality is actually pretty good. Just be aware that the sound the gun makes is rather loud, so I placed a piece of tape where the sound comes from to keep it reasonable.
