Imagine a society that rewards heroes handsomely. Now imagine cheating to be that hero.

Mack Reynolds does this brilliantly. You can't help being sympathetic to the anti-hero, and even a little envious...

I first read this book in my teens, and although I've matured enough to see the simplistic nature of the story line, I still re-read it to this day with a wistful "If only that could be me!"
