This is one of the few excellent recordings of early music I've heard. Ensmble Buon Tempo really captures the tone, tempo, and precision that is so lacking in many early music groups today. They do not add needless embellishment or experimentation with pieces that beautiful pieces in themselves.

Several years ago, I had been searching and searching for the "just right" version of Greensleeves and never had any luck...until I found Galante Kurzweyl's collection, that is. These pieces are absolutely amazing. They have that Ye Olde England feel to them -- as if I'm traveling with Chaucer's group to Canterbury or traipsing through the forest with a violin. The ones I love are the more "earthy"-feeling pieces like Daphne, Tourdion, The Buffens, etc.--basically the first ten or so tracks. They are less refined than the pieces by Bach and Mozart that are featured later in the collection. They are all fantastic, but I was searching specifically for music that put me in mind of Robin Hood and the Renaissance-era -- and I found it! I wish I could find more. I listen to this album everyday as background music while I work and I never tire of hearing it. I absolutely love it!!

As a historical dancer I am always on the lookout for recordings that are truly authentic in thier sound, tempo, presentation, etc. This CD certainly has it all! It is one of the few I have seen that offer the music for several of Feuillet's notated dances. This is a must for anyone interested in the recreation of historical dance.
