4.0 out of 5 stars Humorous, though not the best season, September 3, 2006
This review is from: Galaxy Angel Z: Complete Collection (DVD)
The Galaxy Angel series chronicles the adventures of the five female members of an eponymous military team, along with their harried supervisor and wisecracking AI Normad. While the manga was a fairly mainstream science fiction series, the anime is, with the exception of a few episodes, intended for humour.

Galaxy Angel Z is the second season of the series.

There was something resembling a continuing plot centering on the Lost Technology in the early part of the first season, but by Galaxy Angel Z, the Lost Technology is merely an occasional recurring plot device, and there is little direct continuity. The episodic nature actually makes the comedy easier to set up, so it's not such a bad thing if you don't expect there to be much serious material.

The quality of the episodes in Galaxy Angel Z seems to fluctuate more than in the first season. While I got at least a few chuckles out of almost every episode in the original, there were some in this season that ranged more into the 'silly' category. The art seemed somewhat inferior in some episodes, possibly due to time constraints - this most frequently manifests itself in a lack of shading. Furthermore, this season strangely had a mere 18 episodes instead of the usual 26.

On the other hand, there are still a number of good episodes in this season: the last two, in particular, are memorable. While I would recommend one of the other seasons first, this is worthwhile viewing for a veteran Galaxy Angel fan, and is still well above average for comedy anime.
