first, i'm not sure what product the people were reviewing with casein in it...their veggie shreds DO have casein (and what's the point in using a cheese substitute if it has animal products in it?), but this is the VEGAN version, which is CASEIN FREE. (the difference, aside from casein, is the color of the packaging. veggie products have a green background, while the vegan products, shown here, have a purple background.)

that being said, this is a great substitute for parmesan cheese--but it's not identical, so don't purchase it with the expectation that it will taste exactly like the Krafty Cheese Product you're used to sprinkling on your spaghetti. in my opinion, it tastes much better than that. :) i agree with the other reviews that it's a great addition to a vegan pantry, and it adds a great finishing touch to a lot of dishes!

This is a great vegan cheese. I recommend it. I have tried other brands and this one is the best. My friends who are not vegan love it. I do suggest the local store rather than Amazon. You can pick it up for under $4.

My son has food allergies and he loves the Vegan products. Their cheese slizes actually melt and make great grill cheese. I am not a soy fan but even i like the Vegan Parmesan. I use it to make chicken Parmesan, meatballs, and all the italian favs that need cheese in them. I have even used it to make alfredo. It is a little grainy for alfredo but he still loved the flavor of it! OUr store has stopped carring it i was thrilled to find it on Amazon.

I bought this at a local grocer (Jungle Jim's in Cincinnati). I began eating a plant-based (read Vegan) diet 12 weeks ago. Cheese is the thing I miss most. I cannot tell you how good this substitute is... I do not think I could tell the difference from the regular Kraft Parmesan cheese (of course it is different then freshly shredded parm cheese). I have used it on pasta dishes as well as in soups.

Try it!

Yes, this product IS vegan. The one I am holding in my hand specifically states no casein and non-GMO soy, too, and it is vegan! It also is delicious, and my dairy-allergic child loves this. We use it for casseroles, spaghetti, salads, and even on her pizza. Unfortunately, since the shipping is outrageous and this doesn't qualify for Amazon Prime (free shipping) I will be getting it through my local health food store, but the product is delicious and even has some calcium in it. I personally think the flavor is almost identical to Parmesan, and if the shipping were free I would be buying several to have on hand.

When I opened the container it smelled just like parmesan. Taste just like parmesan. Conclusion. Awesome!!! In a world where vegan cheeses generally taste like toasted plastic. It was refreshing to have one that tasted like cheese. Big ups to Galaxy foods.

I have several food allergies. I can't have anything with any Milk or Milk by-products. I'm allergic to tree nuts. When you read the labels on the various substitute cheeses, you find things like "Casein" or "Whey" or various tree nuts like Walnuts or Brazil nuts.

I used to buy this product at local health food stores, but they don't seem to carry it any more. Finding it on Amazon was very nice indeed.

The product itself is not Parmesan and is not as good as Parmesan. it does not have the sharp taste associated with real cheese and has an artificial taste. But, it works. At least when I eat pasta with marinara sauce I can sprinkle something on it and imagine it's real.

The product you get is Vegan grated Parmesan Cheese Alternative, not the Go Veggie! product in the picture. You'll get a 4-oz plastic jar of dairy-free parmesan cheese that contains no casein. It's the only dairy-free cheese I've found that I like. And yes, it's expensive here, much more expensive than in a store, but since the store closest to me that carries it would involve a half-day drive, it's well worth the cost in my case. Thank you, Galaxy, for making this product and for making it available online. Now if you guys would just lower the price a bit.

UPDATE: They DID lower the price! Hooray! Great product for a great price! Thank you!
