Recommended to me by Amazon a year or so ago, the Gallagher Girls books have proven to be far more entertaining than I expected them to be and I'm so glad I gave them a try. Set largely in the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women, the stories follow Cammie "The Chameleon" Morgan and her friends Bex, Liz and Macey as they train to join the ranks of the famous "Gallagher Girls" - women who comprise some of the cleverest spies ever. Along with studying covert operations and code-breaking, the girls also deal with the usual hazards of teenage life.

Ally Carter is a talented writer who not only entertains me, but has enticed me into caring about her characters. I am engaged in the lives of these smart, resourceful - and sometimes so painfully young - girls, and the people surrounding them, including parents, teachers and the inevitable boys. They intrigue me. I want to know more about them and the world they inhabit, and that keeps me turning pages and looking forward to each new book in the series. Carter delivers on plot and paces her stories superbly. She gives us a good balance of dialogue and narrative and an even better balance of humor, danger and poignancy.

The Gallagher Girls books are fast, fun and very satisfying reads. It is worth noting, too, that each successive book in the series (and they should definitely be read in order) has grown in complexity and has a slightly darker edge than the volume preceding it. Happily, though the humor remains.

Included in this set, in reading order, are:

I love to read, and I love the books I read to just be simple and enjoyable. This series is amazing! A great change from Twilight-- this does not cause girls to be dependent on male attention-- it teaches them to be smart and self-sufficient.

This clever series is fun to read aloud to one's pre-teen daughter. It is fast-moving and fun. There may be some humor that was lost on her that I thought was hilarious. It was great fun for both of us.

My 12 year old loves this series. She may be a year or two young for it but kids are mature these days. I would rather have her reading than watching the garbage on tv.

I bought this series for my 17 year old daughter. She enjoyed them so much, she insisted I read them too. It was a fun summer read. We enjoyed the stories so much, we just bought the next in the series, "Only the Good Spy Young" and I look forward to continuing with the adventures.

I loved this series of books, so much that I have the next book scheduled for delivery when it is released! Even though I am in my 30s, I have been enjoying a lot of the books that have been written for younger audiences! Keep up the good work!
The books that I received from Amazon were in excellent condition! I will continue to order from Amazon for all my reading needs!

This is a collected review of the four installments.

As you may or may not have figured out, it's nearly impossible describing the GG-books in a concise format of words. The plotline is simply put a jaw-dropping maze.

Carter is a genius. These books fall right under the category of books you're just awestruck by and cannot comprehend a human being has actually thought it all out. So again, Carter is a geniu, an amazing writer. She's an expert at story-developing and storytelling. Although these are serious (deadly, if you will) stories, Carter has a gift of executing with much appreciated humor - some books will be darker/funnier than the other - but what she never fails to deliver, is action. Excitement. Suspense.

Cammie is fearless and bold, yet vulnerable. Cammie's the average one in a group of friends with more particular personality traits, which will make her very approachable and neutral. And despite being a highly-trained spy, relatable. You'll grow to love and trust Cammie and her friends, as well as the people around them.

I would say the GG-books are the only ones ever physically making me gape, not believing what I'm reading. It will surprise you, even shock you, and the excitement and anticipation will be never ending. It's a page-turner and you'll be dying to know what happens next and next and next (most importantly, it'll deliver.)

I'll admit I've found myself several times questioning what's going on, asking why this and that happened the way it did and not another way around, and so on.. but it's safe to say Carter knows what she's doing.

It's an intricate, dramatic, action-filled story, so planned out and woven in detail. And, of course, there's some sweet romance..

Loved it?

My 12-year old daughter realized that she loves reading thanks to the Gallagher Girls series! These books are filled with intrigue, suspense, and fun. I asked my daughter what she enjoyed most about the books and she said that she "enjoyed reading about young girls that could do amazing things". Would recommend!
